Orienteering race (NavStock Long) 2:41:00 [4] *** 17.7 km (9:06 / km) +500m 7:58 / km
ahr:154 max:177 spiked:22/27c shoes: La Sportiva - Slingshot

( 13.?k nominal ) about a zillian meters vertical...

Aside from the heat, the biting flies, the stinging nettles, and the soul crushing elevation gain, this was a great course. I was clearly not moving as fast in this event but was racing well up until c19 where I started to fade rapidly. By c21 I was walking all the hills and even some of the flats through thick under growth. It's a shame between the bonking and a 9min loss on c24(BINGO) I would have finished a good 30+ sooner. I have a lot of work to do before I can run this sort of distance well, after having run several events the days previous. Some Impressive finishes by the top runners.

An awesome weekend of Orienteering! Can't say enough about the course and map quality. Can't wait until next year!

Orienteering race (NavStock Middle) 48:58 [4] *** 6.3 km (7:46 / km) +100m 7:12 / km
ahr:166 max:188

( 5.4k nominal ) Awesome course! Excellent map! and nice open woods in *some* areas. There are some tough fight areas for sure which made for some great route choice legs, especially for such a fast race. I arrived at the start after my name was called but made the stupid decision to start anyway rather then just wait for another slot. So my time started and I was still putting my map in the map case, clearing and checking, fumbling with my foot pod and watch, etc. So not only did I start about a minute behind but I was all flustered running to one. I didn't even notice that I had no clue sheet until I got to the second control. There was one on my map but I didn't think of that right away. First couple were clean oddly enough but I was pretty hesitant and lacking rythm. Somewhere between c3 and c4 things started to click and I was starting to move faster and cleanly. I had one poor route choice that cost me maybe 30-40 sec but other than that I did about my best. Had the start gone smoother I may have been able to take off another 2-3min. Overall though, I feel as if I'm improving quite a bit.

Orienteering race (NavStock Sprint) 16:45 [3] *** 2.75 km (6:05 / km) +75m 5:22 / km
ahr:168 max:181 spiked:13/14c shoes: La Sportiva - Slingshot

Awesome sprint course, exchanging up and down a good size hill several times between beach park, woods, and upper camping area. Varied open park and wooded controls making for a technical but fast race. I personally felt pretty crappy having run a hard middle and eating too close to the race. Also I took a nap and woke up about 20min before my start. Not sure if I'll ever be good at sprints.

3 Legged O race (World Champs) 28 [4] 0.05 km (9:20 / km) +3m 7:11 / km
shoes: La Sportiva - Slingshot

Three rounds. Erin and I won all three. Had a great opening round with 32sec. Closest team being 42sec. Second round didn't go so well with a disappointing 35sec for us, but held because the closest team was I believe 39sec for that round. Third round came around and the Canadians tried there best to gain a victory over the soul US representatives by conveniently announcing that the previous 2 rounds were just qualies and that the third and final round was the only round to count.

Pressure was on with numerous teams placing their best times of the competition. A team of two gents (forgive me for not knowing their names) put down a blistering 33sec just one second form our best time. We were the last team to go for all or nothing. 28sec! PR, CR, world champions! USA defends.

P.S. I believe Mike Waddington's dad caught the race on video. Someone might be able to convince him to throw it on the net.

Event: Nav-Stock

Orienteering (NavStock Model) 36:34 [3] *** 5.1 km (7:10 / km) +50m 6:50 / km
ahr:152 max:178 spiked:10/10c

( 4.?k nominal ) Felt great to get out and run after the long drive. I took it rather easy, walking the hills and no pushing to hard through the thick under brush areas. Great map, very accurate.
