First day of work!

Yoga 15:00 [3]

11 AM

Orienteering 50:43 [3] 2.2 mi (23:03 / mi) +272ft 20:38 / mi
shoes: Salomon Speedcross 3 - Blue

Quail Hill - Brown. Yes, Mercury IS in retrograde!!

After the chaos of the start (or lack of start ) I knew the course would not count. (at least now I really hope it doesn't.) So I went out wondering which controls might be missing, as the course setter was out collecting controls with the irate ED trailing behind him, yelling at him to stop. Then I mispunched, purely my own fault - just skipped a control. Then around 30 minutes the pain really started flaring, and I was trying to avoid the new out of bounds area determined by scout leader at the last minute, (I was hearing an orienteer getting yelled at!!) so I decided to just call it a day and take a DNF. Better than having bad orienteering and being in horrible pain. So just mild pain instead :)

The good news: I got some gas for 30 cents cheaper per gallon while in NJ.

Thanks to all you good guys (speedy, wyatt, and others i'm sure) who calmed everyone down and swooped in to help out. I'm not really sure what was going on there but it didn't look pleasant.

Back Stretches 10:00 [3]

TNT Penncrest Track. Informal TNT included tossing a lacrosse ball between the Sandies, Clem, Dasha and Karl. I am now the proud owner of said ball which will help with the trigger point muscle release I'm supposed to do before / after exercise.
6 PM

Run 9:42 [3] 1.01 mi (9:36 / mi) +23ft 9:24 / mi
shoes: Salomon XT Wings 3

Taking it easy. "Listening to body" or trying to anyway. Really the body didn't want to do anything....but I had to earn my pizza.

sciatica not as bad today! so much for going slower. it seems like it's a toss up between choosing a softer surface or an even surface. a soft, even surface would be perfect, of course, but i'm too bored by the track.

Jog 33:26 [3] 3.06 mi (10:56 / mi) +46ft 10:46 / mi

Went really slowly on purpose to concentrate on form - keeping abs and butt muscles engaged to take some pressure off my lower back. It was a lot harder than I thought it would be! This is probably how slow I should be going for a while. I need to readjust my expectations yet again for orienteering and just try to concentrate on navigating well without worrying how fast I'm going so I don't make things worse. Easier said than done! :)

Back Stretches 10:00 [3]

Including a new thing BEFORE running, which was using a tennis ball against the wall to pinpoint/relax my lower back muscles (QLs) that are really 'hot' according to doc. When he pressed them it really did startle me.
