Elk Neck Green

STINKY! Slow out of the start, slow to get my brain working right. But at least I wasn't making any big mistakes...until...#5- shallow re-entrant in the middle of lots of green, mis-aimed and had to relocate...

#7 a very long leg where I failed to execute my poor route choice and thus spent a very discouraging 25 minutes getting to the control. It will be interesting to see Route Gadget, so I can see where the heck I was! The control itself - the pit - was kind of fun - a little stinkhole filled with water, and I almost slid right in!

From there, I was thinking "I have to make up for all this lost time somehow."..but the course just went on and on. On my way to #11, I went down the wrong trail a little ways...there seemed to be a lot of trails not on the map in different places so I was very unsure about trails.

It wasn't smooth sailing. I must have climbed over 20 tree trunks and plowed through oh so many patches of mountain laurel. That combined with the earlier mess ups and I started moving more slowly. All in all I was disappointed with myself on this one.

I learned the very difficult lesson of not taking into account the climb for that #7 when I made my route choice, I wasn't even focused on contours, and I paid the price. Hopefully in the future I will look at the contours a little better! (Note to self: why are you wearing so many layers! Wear less)

It was good to hang out a little after with DVOA peeps...helped me feel better about it all.

Sandy - I was waiting for you but finally got too cold and had to leave. Hope you had a good run!

Yoga 45:00 [3]

now i'm to the point where i have my own routine, a mix of all the stuff i've learned from different places. it's much more satisfying than listening to someone else tell you what to do...and i got to a really free place today while in tree pose and then dancer's pose, feeling so grateful that my body can do these things. spending more time in inversions lately has taken things to a new level (i'm reversing the effects of gravity!) i feel so alive and happy when doing yoga and i think it's a good counter exercise to orienteering and trail running, keeping me flexible, working on balance, and stimulating mental focus. i'm so thankful to be where i am now, as opposed to where i was, with an ailing body and mind and spirit. i feel as whole as i've ever been in my life. i guess i should end with a 'namaste.' :)
