Last day Rocky Mt O Fest.

What a fantastic time!!!
Some of the best terrain,( fairly) fast running for me, perfect weather, great Mexican food in town, friends from all over in town, nice beds with towel service and breakfast in the am.... whew just of breath from saying that.
Wish it really was 1000 Day Event!

The last day was at Superfly Marsh. The long leg from 6-7 was the ball breaker for the race. Long leg up a hill and down to the either easy out of the direct line marked crossing or risk maybe a beaver crossing or just getting up to your knees in marsh. I lost a lot of direct line in the control and instead of charging up the big boulder hill I veered west a couple of hundred meters and went up the aspens, found a pass and actually saw Brooke heading to #10. Veered a bit west on 7 and lost little time.
Long finish with a 600 meter run mostly uphill to the Go control that you could see 300 meters away.
And another 200 to the finish.
Very Physical because if you think it’s easy, your not running hard enough.
I believe Swampfox said that quote!

Control pickup in the far west area that I didn’t see. Lots of confusing boulders.

Day 5 Rocky Mt Fest. Felt so much better ( green tea?)
And was running very clean until I went up the wrong reentrant going to 5.
Only other really bad mistake was the go control, wrong reentrant again.
I was pretty exhausted by then and not drank any water on the course trying to make time up.

Rocky Mt O festivities.
Stay in good contact with the map today. Just didn’t have the energy to go uphill.
Lost time on no 9 and my poor route to 10 taking the trail around because I just could not climb any more hills.
Fun course, great weather, and great people around.

New map and pretty technical. I made some serious mistakes going to 10 and way off on 15. Oxygen lacking to the brain I suppose.

One Cowboy Relay.
Another fantastic event put on by Swampfox. 5 maps the first 4 were motaola style and the last map was the one that showed you where you were at against the comp.

As usual I was off on the very first control by one reentrant, but recovered, my second map I lost like 5 minutes on the first control loop B.
Had a number of repeat controls, but you still had to get to them.

On the last loop, from 2-3 I went pretty straight to it and passed 3-4 people. Saw Brooke and GT ahead and finally passed them on 6 and 7. Brooke she was flying in the course.
Finished in 17 th overall.
Tomorrow starts the A events.
I cant express how nice it is out here Year after year for the events.
I did give up camping here and sort of miss that aspect but....maybe next time.

Day1 Rickey Mountain Orienteering Festival. Laramie, Wyoming.
Mass start with 75 people. I started out in about 5 th place but soon had to walk and got passed by about 20 people. I had cotton mouth right away and the whole time yuck.
The area seemed super fast and little sage which made runnababilty excellent.
I got my wind back and started picking off some good Orienteers along the way.
This was my hardest workout of the summer.
Yes the hardest, with the altitude, chase, blisters on my toes and lack of real conditioning made this the toughest run of the summer no dought.
Went back to the best Mexican food anywhere at Corona village in town... yum!
