Canadian Long O champs.
Well if anything could go wrong it did today. My Head was not very together and I could not orienteer myself out of a paper bag. One of my worse meets in a long time, but a bad day O is better than not.
I messed up one and hit 2-3, but on 4 I just could not get into the map. Long leg to 6 and I backed out of my original route choice because of looking the wrong way at a marsh. Thought I needed to cross it and I didn't.
Back to my new philosophy that if you want to perform well in this sport, camping is just wrong. Train whistles going off at 4:00am and poor night sleep just doesn't cut it. Lesson learned.

Canadian Middle Championships.
Real nice area except all the rocks under foot... which I don't like.
Ended up 5 th 34 seconds back of GT.
Weather was cool, and windy.
On the way to 5 I crossed a stream and had cliffs all around, didn't realize I had to cross another creek, so that messed me up, but kept a good compass bearing and that worked out. On 10 I didn't go far enough and checked out two different controls till I found mine ugh!

But a really fun technical area. I just don't like running all over rocks, but who does anyway.

Trivia city walk. We had to navigate a score type course and answer questions. We also checked out river crossing that I didn't take.
Pretty nice use of day off.

Canadian Sprint Champs, Perth Ont.
Only one mistake, that's why I am calling myself one mistake Charlie.
There was a control around a church and in my haste I didn't see the purple line covered the wall that blocked entrance to the control.
Cost some time and a chance to move up.

What a great event. Retro O on the 1967 Red course. Black and white map, 1-20000 scale and not much in the way of any updates.
You really needed to simplify the terrain which worked.
This was a super fun, not really competitive event,

This map and course is on the Chicago area O Club Facebook site if interested.

Back to the Barrens. Ouch it was super buggy, wet and tough area. This was a midweek training event that I did with my friend from Edmonton.
Really only got 8 or 10 controls and that was enough!!

Night O mass start on a golk course. Yes Chi a golk course.
Very nice use of this type of terrain. It was a small golk course by some standards or compact.
I did course 2 of three. Older folks in my group.
There were different courses so following wasn't going to work.
Well as it turns out I would of won, except atfter control 15 I drifted off and had to jump a creek and that dislodged my connect wire. Off goes my light and at that point there was only one control which I thought might be the finish control and a long trail run to it. So I punched the finish control and turned to look and see others going to that last control. I went over to punch and back to the last control 50 meters away and finish again.
2nd place....oh well.
Very fun event and this could be done at every bigger golk course in the country.
