Orienteering Meet race 1:06:09 [5] *** 6.7 km (9:52 / km) +180m 8:42 / km
ahr:151 max:169 spiked:10/14c shoes: Ice Bug 1

Last day of Western Champs and I managed to squeak by GT for third. Lots of very tough comp on Green as usual. Fun time, with knowledge that it's time to really start training after my summer of recovery. Not very clean a on a number of controls, but this map was technical compared to yesterday. Biggest mistake was on #6 as I lost concentration on where I really was, but was able to relocate on Pelican Bay itself. Best part was I started late and saw no one in and around controls.

Celebration party tonight at the campsite as this is the last night here. :(
Time to get home tomorow and cut the lawn, take the trash, organize life for a while. And train!

Day 1 western states champs here in good old Wyoming. Except for going around the hill to no. 2 a very clean run....and most everyone else. It was a runners course and you had too climb a lot. No excuses, I am just a bit out of shape and overweight. GT and Slick Rick had good times and JPI and BRG had awesome times. Actually Slick had an awesome time too. Tomorow of course is another day so I can't wait to redeem myself.

Orienteering Meet race 45:55 [5] *** 6.1 km (7:32 / km) +85m 7:02 / km
ahr:153 max:167 spiked:10/10c shoes: Ice Bug 1

Pitcher Hill on a fast and wide open course with just one or two technical controls. But it was fun running this wide open sage brush jumping event. In the end GT and BRG were together running across wide open pieces of land when slick Rick coming back from a mistake over took us. BGR and I ended up in a goofy sprint at the end for a tie???
Afterward back for the new usual of shower at the gym and picnic in the park.
Interesting that my avg HR was only 153 and I am wondering if that is because the course was flatter or conditioning...I hope.

One cowboy relay..... A comment by one of my fellow age group orienteers was " you don't seem to be running as fast as you do are you hurt or is it the alitude? ". No, its I did get out of shape this summer due to lack of working out. So I must pay the price and continue racing here into shape and try to navigate well. Today's event I messed up the first control by 100 meters as I thought I set my bearing and ran to a control I saw. Oops wrong one by 100 meters. After that I was just slower than I used to run. Some rough areas to run in and overall 14 th place.

Orienteering Meet race 55:05 [5] *** 5.5 km (10:01 / km) +175m 8:38 / km
ahr:160 max:174 spiked:10/10c shoes: Ice Bug 1

Another great day of comp here in Wyoming. Of course another mass start and tough workout. Lots of hilly climbs after a 1.2 k run to the first control. I moved up a notch from tenth yesterday to ninth today. More people start showing up as the weekend draws near.

Orienteering Meet race 57:55 [5] *** 5.7 km (10:10 / km) +150m 8:59 / km
ahr:158 max:184 spiked:8/10c shoes: Ice Bug 1

Moose outlet, day 1 daze. 2 mistakes early and on #2 I was off 50 meters and the crowd caught up and on 3# I misread the reentrant as a spur.
Very tough workout, dry mouth and new max HR of 184. Wow. Actually my conditioning was tested today and really not the best, should be no surprise as the comp here is much thought than Canada. Hopefully this week is get better.
This is the best, campfires, guitar playing, beer drinking and tough runs.
Whew I hope I make it for the whole week.
