Cross Biking Rd/Trail 2:35:00 [3] 33.5 mi (4:38 / mi)

Met an old college buddy for biking on the Clinton River and Painted Creek trails by Rochester Michigan. Nice pace and we were passed by a guy on a single speed and on the way back he was stopped at a light and we all started talking and riding. Interesting that he was from Marquette Michigan...small world and we had some talk about marquette, etc.

Orienteering Meet race 1:23:01 [5] *** 5.6 km (14:49 / km) +195m 12:38 / km
spiked:6/13c

US champs...One of the nicest scenery hikes to a start I have had. Well that was probably the best part of my race. Not really, and I had a nice time in the woods. I guess I did not reallly connect with the map, even though I loved it and will go back in a heartbeat. My problem was too much of the map looked the same and no confidence in navigation. I really had a hard time reading the trails in the rock ledges.
I mean on a 40 second leg I missed and took 5 minutes to no.7
Overall great week of orienteering and ended with a challanging US Champs, that was of a high quality event.

Looking at the results it seems some others either could either get into the map or it just busted them. Better navigators did well. Time to try stronger reading glasses in more complex terraine.

Orienteering Meet race 1:13:56 [5] *** 5.5 km (13:27 / km) +220m 11:12 / km
spiked:8/12c

Moreau Lake St Park... Short drive from hotel and at the lake was one of the best shows of color in the trees I have seen in quite a while. The map and teraine was great. The courses challanging as should be for a US Champs. I hit the first 2 well and had a long route to No.3, drifted a bit to the north and helped out some others. Than I hit the control. No. 5 was a disaster as I drifted to the east in marshs that were not on my course. This was about a 6-7 ,minute mistake. The final few controls were fine but I wasted another minute on the go control as I could find the trail to it.
Great day and even though I finished in the middle of the pack I had a blast. lots of friends out and around orienteering, which makes it different than being over seas.

Orienteering Meet race 40:00 [5] *** 5.0 km (8:00 / km)
spiked:22/23c

This is for both sprints at Saratoga st Park. 1st one was 19:56 and I did fine, and I took the 2nd one in about 20 minutes. I skiped the 6th control cause I could not see the maked route through the red line.

Sprint A at Webster park in Rochester....Nice park as I played guitar overlooking the big lake before the event. Great run in a cool park ...I ran so fast I forgot/didn't see that I needed to get all the controls..MP for not getting no.7

Orienteering Meet race 12:00 [4] *** 1.4 km (8:34 / km)

I decdided since I was warmed up that I would might as well do sprint B.
It had a few different controls, and my pace was tired. I did not download.

Orienteering Meet race 56:39 [5] *** 6.0 km (9:27 / km) +100m 8:43 / km
spiked:29/29c

One hour score O at the same park, but now more woods. Mass start with one minute to look at the map. I decided to head out to the hight point controls right away and saw that there was an obivous loop to take from there. I was by my self and at one control I got my balls wacked OUCH!! that has not happened in a long long time. Than in this same area a stick in my shins and a fight through some nasty prickley stuff. After that short 5 minutes of pain, the rest of the map and course was prettty good. I was moving good and than had visons of a sweep. I saw Greg W ( the winner ) on my last loop in the woods and he than finished while I still had a few minutes of low pointers around the finish. I ended up 2nd overall. Nice event and the food after was a nice touch. On to my friends house/farm 20 minutes away that I have not seen in 25 years. Awesome time there visiting.

Orienteering Meet race 14:53 [5] *** 2.5 km (5:57 / km) +37m 5:33 / km
spiked:14/15c

Niagara Falls State Park aka Goat Island. small island with lots of tourists near controls in a few spots. Almost a road run as we did not go into the woods at all. At the end I went to no.14 before 13 oops!!! Guess what the way it was on the map, a number of others did the exact same thing. Fun event, and great views of the Falls as I warmed up and looked over, after, and during the race.

Orienteering Meet race 14:53 [5] *** 2.2 km (6:46 / km) +37m 6:14 / km
spiked:13/14c

Niagra falls sprints.. Real cool park and warmup area had great scenery. Top of the falls. One course and not in the woods at all. I made a fatal mistake by going down the only hill to 14 before 13....ouch!!!!! I was not the only one to make this mistake. On to Rochester...
