Orienteering Meet race 56:23 [5] *** 3.5 mi (16:07 / mi)
spiked:14/17c

Fairhill day 1, 5th place today. Lost time due to being on top of controls and could not see them. This happened on #2 which was a cliff and #3 was a Jeff Shaw spur, where the control was in the creek, or bottom of spur in creek???? #9 was supposed to be a renentrant but was a little marsh, I went over it and missed it. Other than that.........

Orienteering Meet race 20:12 [4] *** 1.6 mi (12:37 / mi)
spiked:11/12c

Sprint fairhill. I got caught up in racing some young kid. We were trying to beat each other. #8 we drifted to the south of the control 50 meters, I pointed him in the right direction. After this I made a 180. Ok that was rookie mistake. Anyway I ended up with the exact time as Rick B. How's that for close.

Hiking 1:00:00 [1] 3.0 mi (20:00 / mi)

Hike the inner trails of Presque Isle in Marquette. After biking around the road yesterday, I wanted to walk the interior to check it out for sprint orienteering someday. It looked very good but could be pretty techinial in a lot of places. My goal would be to hold sprints there some day and reinterduce Marquette to Orienteering.

Road Riding 40:00 [2] 8.0 mi (5:00 / mi)

To Presque Isle , Marquuette MI and back while we waited for the dough to rise. Oh we were making my Mom's famous bread. Only 2nd time we ever made it., Good recover ride, but the borrowed bike did not fit well and was pretty uncomfortable to ride.

Adventuer Racing race 4:30:00 [5] ***** 20.0 mi (13:30 / mi)
spiked:22/24c

The Boar 2007. This race was all Navigation. It started with trying to solve a sedutko puzzle to see when you start. It vwas tough, but we went off 3rd.
Started with a trail run to start of Aerial photo O. Well the trail was not marked to the start or anything, so we missed a needed junction and lost 5 minutes.. We started this part and quickley found a bunch of wondering teams short of the first control. I picked up on exactly where we were and off we went. I thought a bunch of teams were going to follow us, but we left them. At the last or 5th control, a short line O began, we caught up to the first place team and quickley left them. It was 156 degrees back to the start to begin the GPS part, we were in first place. My partner had his own unit and it was old, so while waiting for the signals to lock , 3 other teams came in and left before us. Finally we went back to the start and Kevin loaned us one of his and showed us how to use it. Off we went abd I could only follow and look for the controls as we came close to location. Back to the start and off to the regular O section. Except we did not read the directions that we were to run that trail again to start the O. I was trying to make sense of a map that we were not on. The first place team passed us and I was not sure where they were going still. Finally there was a camping shelter and it was not on the map. So it still took us more time to figure that we still had to run more to start the O section. oops!!!!!
In the O section Kevin has put together a new very nice map. There were about 13 controls in a very nice red course. I decided to take them in reverse order after our screw up getting there, since the last control was about 100 meters off the road we were starting on. This was some good techinal orienteering. WE missed only one control that wwe had to relocate on a road and shoot back in. Did I mention that it was recording breaking warmth that day, 74 degrees. It was getting hot. Back to the start 1 mile and half run and we began the Nav section, but it was a 5 hour time limit total and we had 23 minute. We had time to make it to only 1 control on the USG map and back with only a couple of minutes to spar. We ended up in 2nd place overall only based on the 1st place team eting back 5 minutes before us.. Overall I was pretty tired from the heat and long workout, but my bqa foot was feeling pretty good., and no IT band problems either. After race, I headed to Marquette MI. A long long drive.
