Event: QOC Wheaton

orienteering 1:41:00 [3] 7.1 km (14:14 / km) +175m 12:40 / km

Ahh, Wheaton. I always enjoy this park, even though it's not at all technical, perhaps because it's a good place to push myself physically and still work on my flow through controls. Felt good through the first half of this course, then my lack of fitness caught up with me and I started to suffer a bit. Things went fairly smoothly until I bit off on the wrong ditch on #6- had trouble making sense of the trail and contours and stopped a few ditches too early. Saw the bridge a few meters further down the trail and corrected. Planned to go relatively straight from 7 to 8, but executed poorly and should have just ran the trail. Smooth from 9 to 12, then drifted too far north on 13 and hit the road north of where I wanted to, turned right, and took a few seconds to figure out that things weren't lining up. Lost a couple minutes there. Smooth again from 14 to the finish, but getting pretty tired by that point and not able to push as hard as I would have liked.

running 19:30 [3] 2.0 mi (9:45 / mi)
(sick)

My 2-mile section of the base 10 mile relay. Ran with Amanda for pretty much our whole leg, so at least I had company :) I think we came in around 4th or 5th co-ed team.

My new boss (former x-country coach and spent a year studying in England where he did a little orienteering) wants to start coaching me and doing orienteering for command PT. Now I just have to finish that map of the base that Jeremy and I started in 2012. Also, my job and co-workers are awesome.

Oh for pete's sake. This is getting old. Now I have a dry cough and no voice.
