running (trail/off-trail) 38:27 [4] 5.0 km (7:41 / km) +150m 6:41 / km

Felt really good to put in a solid 5-k effort. This was a steep, hilly course, and at 6k feet. Dusty, too, but the temperature was quite pleasant. Finished 10th in my age group, and 20th woman overall, and I felt really good (except my calves got really tight on the steep uphill sections), so I was happy with my result.

running 15:00 [2]

Jogging a bit to warm up on the way to the start.

orienteering 2:18:30 [3]

Ouch. I knew that in this terrain I'd have to be very deliberate and precise in order to avoid making costly mistakes by falling too far down hill and having to climb back into controls. So what did I do? Promptly lost 14 minutes on #2 by descending too much and not taking the time to pick a good attackpoint. Eventually relocated when I was almost at #3. The relatively easy running and navigation following #8 all the way to the end was a welcome respite, though. My quads and hips were not happy with me by the end.

orienteering 22:15 [4] 2.0 km (11:08 / km)

This was better than yesterday, but I still could have done better. Completely lost my concentration on #8, when the control was technically inside the out of bounds area, behind the uncrossable wall. I then proceeded to take off in the wrong direction to #9, only catching my mistake when I ended up at a dead end. oof. Probably close to a minute lost there. Other than that, just a bobble on the way to 14, when I momentarily forgot which number I was going to.

orienteering 1:28:17 [3] 3.2 km (27:35 / km) +170m 21:48 / km

Not my best. Overshot #1 and had to re-attack from the trail, then 2-3-4 were all pretty sloppy. Saw Gina heading to #7 while I was going to #5, so I told myself to pull it together and focus, and I caught back up to her somewhere between 7 and 8, then we were pretty much together until the end. It was good to get out on such a physical, technical course, even if it was slow.
