orienteering 58:21 [4] *** 8.98 km (6:30 / km) +182m 5:54 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212 (#6 Fluro)

NSW Long, Arthursleigh - 6 controls, 7.2km

Was very dubious about this, left knee very sore before I started and on the first leg, but I think I didn't really notice it too much after that. Slowed/stopped a few times when I thought I'd lost contact, but hit 1-4 OK, taking the round-the-yellow route to 4 (probably a minute or more slower). Got luck at 5 as I was missing the ridge, somebody came out of the control up it. Lost the race on the last leg I suspect, getting too high and into some unm, arked green, then missed the control a minute at the end to ice that cake.

Struggled walking after the drive back, will leave injury active.

orienteering race 1:18:11 [3] *** 7.3 km (10:43 / km) +164m 9:38 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212 (#6 Fluro)

NSW Middle Champs, Appin

Was v nervous, but no real pain in knee throughout what was a longer than expected race.

1:7500 after 1:25000 last w/e and 1:10000 in NZ. 1:15000 tomorrow will be about right I hope.

A lot of slow bush - from M20 through M70, only 3 people bust 10min/km.

Clean early through to 6, where I caught Tony Hill. From there I went downhill, with a rogaine style relocate at 7, didn't aim off at 8 or 10, overshot at 12 and 14 then just couldn't see the control at 18, which was in a 30cm gap between 2 3.5 m boulders. I didn't see the gap until I walked to the control, lost over 6 minutes at that one. After that I wasn't really into it, having been out for over an hour when I wanted a 40 minutes test run.

Hopefully knee stays good for the Long champs.
