Orienteering 1:20:00 [2] *** 5.9 km (13:34 / km) +178m 11:47 / km
spiked:4/12c shoes: Inov 8 Oroc 340 GTX

Lac Philippe B- Meet
Short Advanced 12 C 5.0 km
Nice area to run in with a nice temperature...
Started off well but in the end did not have a good day...
Controls 1,2,3 good...ran right past 4 to 5 , 6 sloppy...
7 the long leg....navigationally it was good pretty close to the line and I found the control well but this was clearly not the fastest route..my shoe came off on this leg but I didn't really waste much time getting it back on...should have approached the leg more as a runner...
8 was a total screw up and eventually I bailed to the north path and ran in ...In hindsight now I'm pretty sure what I did ...

To top it off I really screwed up with my watch

Note

Ok I'm slow but I just noticed a neat feature on Attackpoint that I probably should have noticed by now ...If you post your GPS track for a race when you look at it you can compare to others who ran the course who also posted their tracks...wonder if you can do this for a training session....

Up to 2 min plank
Started skipping again very slowly this time as its probably the cause of my heel troubles...20 turns only
Did some hanging chest pulls 2 sets of 5 each way after the run

Running 19:08 intensity: (8 @0) + (12 @1) + (53 @2) + (2:10 @3) + (15:45 @4) 4.03 km (4:45 / km) +10m 4:42 / km
ahr:145 max:156 shoes: Saucony Ride 6 GTX

Same run as last week...down to 4H, 3loops- run to stop sign at Tavistock..Tried the heart monitor with the new garmin...This one measures the loop slightly under 1 km whereas the old one measures the loop slighly over 1 km...

Corn Maze Night ...Orienteering or Running that is the question!

Yep ...Even though it was pouring out (thanks Patricia) we went out ...
We either did ...
A: walk the maze and get the controls/multiple choice set by the creator and mark the controls on the "map"
or
B: run the maze, get the controls, mark them on the map and also colour the map (ie cover all the "trails" in a minimal distance...

Didn't really do a warm up or warm down because it was really wet.Thankfully we had access to their kiosk/shack as meeting ground...Don offered access to the barn and offered a fire could be a great meeting area future.
Suprizingly the ground was pretty nice pretty firm not much soft mud or puddles

Now the map...really not much help...
Eric K. superimposed his track on the sheet with Quick route and sent it around
Some comtrol punches gave the crowd quite a challenge to find...
Just when the rain started coming heavier and I was about to quit and started plotting my way out of the maze I was just about to get 6 on my route when Tommy found it and let me know it was just ahead...
So got all 10 in the end... :)
When I looked at my track as shown on AP its way off the aerial which is clearly an old shot
Looking forward to seeing some neat GPS tracks
Thanks to our friends at Maple Hill Urban Farms...Talked to Nan...the other half of the couple running the farm and she told us their daughter does alot of horse back orienteering in the States...They seem very receptive to having us around in the future.
Perhaps our mappers can formally map the maze next year for an event...It was suggested it might make a neat venue for the vampire-o...

Running (Corn Maze O-Running) 55:39 [2] 5.99 km (9:17 / km) +38m 9:00 / km
shoes: Inov 8 Oroc 340 GTX

Really more like running than orienteering....the map gave some semblance of a pattern but can't say I really followed it well...I did use my compass often however to orient to north after many tight turns in the maze although from the sound and light towers from the 417 and Moodie were features detectable in the maze
