Hiking 3:37:57 [1] 16.2 km (13:27 / km) +600m 11:21 / km

Terrain scouting for a prospective mini-rogaine, maybe in fall 2015. Pretty definitely verified that the many things that look like charcoal platforms in the LiDAR data really are charcoal platforms perceptible to the naked eye. Went from no snow on the ground at the picnic area to ~2" of wet snow lingering at the higher elevations. Found that I had been somewhat unlucky in an earlier visit to part of the park - there is a lot of mountain laurel but there are much larger areas of open woods than had been appreciably on that occasion along the off-trail descent route I took then. Based on this visit, I'd say in addition to being plausible for at least a 6 to 8 hour rogaine, there's at least one worthwhile O map's worth of terrain, though there's too much deadfall for it to be anyone's favourite map. Also, that portion of the terrain is extremely steep (though so it Pine Grove Furnace).

Round trip to SOME Trot for Hunger at Freedom Plaza

Running race 18:24 [5] 5.0 km (3:41 / km)

Trot for Hunger - perfectly fine racing conditions and dead flat course but much slower than similar (slightly more climb) 5K I did in early September and only slightly faster than the one I did in late August. Probably a little bit due to less that optimal tapering and other aspects of race preparation and mostly due to less training in October and early November, particularly less level 5 intensity. Still, mark this down as where I am going into the winter. We'll see where I'll be come spring.
