Orienteering race 1:14:28 [4] 8.6 km (8:40 / km) +350m 7:12 / km

QOC Happyland Blue - almost clean run, well back of Lacho but no surprise there, nice to have pipped Johan. Think Chuck and Linda are a little bit overfond of putting controls in green areas (probably, since a lot of the nice terrain is fairly far east and north of the cabin camp, largely to keep the area they have to hang controls in relatively compact), though it's certainly easier to avoid the worst of it in daylight when you can see it from relatively afar. Will have to encourage whoever sets courses next time to put a higher proportion of advanced courses in the more runnable terrain even if it does mean more work. Maybe see if Francis wants to do another course setter's clinic with doing courses for the event as the practicum.

Orienteering 55:00 [2] 5.0 km (11:00 / km)

Picking up my training course of the day before. Should have got organised to get this done, by me or through delegation, earlier in the day - Dan and I did this and finished as dusk was transitioning to dark.

Orienteering 55:00 [2] 5.5 km (10:00 / km)

Hanging an 11 control orange/shading slightly into advanced course for training purposes at Happyland.

Orienteering 2:15:00 [1] 5.5 km (24:33 / km)

Walking the course with a group of, initially, 10 students. Intended to be my version of the old Hear Peter Run tapes, except they got to see me and the terrain as well as listen to me explain what I was using to navigate - essentially them shadowing me in order to hopefully absorb the essentials of competent off-trail navigation in spur and reentrant terrain. Seems to have worked at least reasonably well going by the participants' reactions.

Orienteering race 55:52 [3] 4.1 km (13:38 / km)

Night-O - not tremendously high effort and slowed more by thick woods. Shocked at just how fast Lacho was able to move through them. Mark Lattanzi clearly must also be very good at running through crap. Maybe a more powerful light would have helped - was running with a Princeton headlight rather than my Silva, for which my charging setup has failed in a way I haven't yet troubleshot and come up with a fix for.
