Running 2:13:00 [2] 17.0 mi (7:49 / mi)
shoes: NB856

Trail run in Rock Creek Park - to park, Valley Trail north, cross over and loop around Fort DeRussey before crossing back to do the rougher section of the Valley Trail in the other direction, back home. Managed to hurt something in the bony structure of my right foot slightly but I don't think it's serious.

For once Passport Canada phoned when they said they would - this a.m. they left a message saying everything had been sent to the people who actually make the physical document which ought therefore to be on it's way by close of business Monday.

Running 11:00 [1]

Warmup and cooldown.

Running 22:00 [4] 5.5 km (4:00 / km)

Threshhold run before breakfast and dance class - about time I did some running again.

Modern Dance 1:30:00 [1]

Deborah teaching this one (last week had been her semi-regular substitute, Helen). Have decided I should log most dance classes as intensity 1 given how much time is spent on hardly at all aerobic floor work at the beginning and how intermittent even the more active portions of the class can be.

Cycling 40:00 [3]

Grocery shopping after dance class and before heading downtown for more films.

Cycling 1:20:00 [3] 16.0 mi (5:00 / mi)

Commute and one more Chinese film at Filmfest.

Cycling 1:26:00 [3] 17.0 mi (5:04 / mi)

Commute and downtown to see two Filmfest screenings - Cellphone (womanising Chinese talk show host tripped up by said device) was okay, Kontroll (a fantasy of sorts set entirely in the Budapest subway system) was one of the coolest things since Run, Lola, Run.

Cycling 1:20:00 [3] 16.0 mi (5:00 / mi)

Commute plus scrambling to get new passport photos to courrier north - on checking with Passport Canada again, we're back to them saying my original photos were deemed unusable last Saturday. Who decided to ressurect the Keystone Cops as Canadian bureacrats?

I really ought to do some running. Pity I've already paid for all the Filmfest screenings I have planned or I might blow one off.

Cycling 1:06:00 [3] 13.0 mi (5:05 / mi)

Installed new brake pads for my disk brakes over lunch and got a new rear tire on the way home (old one had splits developing in the sidewall - makes one feel very insecure). Nice to have a bike that feels solid again.

Not getting the expected call back from Passport Canada, I called again and got a totally different story - no glare problems, apparently they hadn't even scanned my application let alone my pictures yet. Nice bureaucracy that receives an application, processes the credit card transaction for the fee within a week and then sits doing nothing for three and a half weeks. Latest interlocutor had me fax a copy of my itinerary with British Airways since I now apparently need to demonstrate my need for expedited processing - you'd think they'd expedite it out of sheer embarassment at their dismal performance thus far.

Core exercises 10:00 [4]

Crunches, bicycle, etc. while catching up with American Idol.

Note

This morning my muscles are telling me it was very definitely the right knee I tried to hyperextend running the last several meters downhill into control 10. How thoughtful of them to back up my deficient memory.

Cycling 1:25:00 [3] 16.5 mi (5:09 / mi)

Commute plus travel to another Filmfest screening. Spent much time phoning the Canadian Passport Office and being told by an automated system that they had too many people waiting to be served to even put me on hold. Eventually got through and found out that UPS totally failed to deliver my application as quickly as promised and that their scanning machinery had some trouble with glare (yes, from the obvious source) the first time they tried digitising the photos I supplied. I may have to get some new pics taken and rushed up north if they can't make the technology behave in a second attempt. Either that or West Point becomes my consolation for missing Surrey.
