Orienteering 1:03:13 [4] 8.95 km (7:04 / km) +390m 5:48 / km

Riverbend Blue course (Red course as loop one then Brown as loop 2) - cold enough that I wore fleece ear covering and two layers of wicking underwear on top. Ground was covered in a sort of fluffed-up frozen leaf litter - very crunchy and energy sucking underfoot, very easy to make elephant tracks in. Let myself get confused by unmapped trail somewhat resembling the mapped on further east and pull up short on control 5 before concluding what I was looking at was nowhere near forested enough or deep enough to be the right reentrant. Brown control 2 - only had the red control descriptions mounted on my wrist and spent 20 seconds stupidly wondering how I could possibly be in the wrong place and whether they could have messed up the numbers before I remembered to read the control descriptions in the map case. Had a moment of doubt whether I was running headlong down the correct spur or setting myself up for confusion and avoidable climb on third last control but all ended well. Another solid run but map orientation slightly sloppy and only partially ascribable to the mitten on my left hand - could have paid heavily if I'd tried that in more technical terrain.

Orienteering 45:00 [2]

Running 1:10:00 [1]

Walk/jog around the University of Maryland at College Park campus with a printout of the DOQQ in hand as preparation for a meeting about our plan to map the area for park-O. Northern area of campus features some of the most utterly crappy woods I've ever seen but the main working areas of the campus should be fun.

Running 10:00 [4]

Probably saved one or two minutes by getting off the Metro and running across Rock Creek Park to buy groceries before getting back on Metro, rather than staying on board and switching trains downtown. Also 15 cents.

Cycling 1:20:00 [3] 16.1 mi (4:58 / mi)

Three days later, I'm fairly certain I commuted to work by bicycle. I distinctly remember rationalising postponing my planned I intervals when I got home and even I shouldn't be able to to that without some excuse for feeling too tired to do them.
