Note

22 dedicated (non-running) volunteers plus a hand here and there from a few QOCers who were running the race pulled off a successful second annual Patuxent River Trail 10K. Turnout was up from 176 to 292 actual runners, though registration outperformed turnout by more this year than last - maybe the fairly high winds were enough to scare off a dozen or so fair weather runners who might otherwise have entered on race day. Or the showers the previous days, presaging a slight mudfest (probably 95% or more of the course was perfectly dry but the rare deep muddy bits were more memorable). In any case, the parking area easily accommodated almost 300 actual bodies - it looked as though we could do 400 without strain next year, if we can attract that many. There was every evidence that we'll get more good word of mouth from this year's participants so hopefully we'll be able to raise even more money for the park and for the US teams next year.

Tomorrow, I'll be happy to go to Pohick Bay and race and only be sort of nominally ultimately in charge of an event rather than actually in charge in a real and immediate sense.
