Orienteering race 1:45:21 [4] **** 7.6 km (13:52 / km) +300m 11:35 / km
ahr:158 18c rhr:52 slept:6.0 (sick) shoes: Adidas Supernova Trail

Feeling sicker, so focused on finishing the Red classic course, at least at first. Felt better as I went, and that probably cost me some concentration. Some poor route choices, but when faced with a muddy and non-runnable trail vs. bushwacking through dense multiflora, it's hard to choose well, for me. A couple of big errors, but mostly slow due to lack of energy. Very different and interesting terrain.

Running warm up/down 10 [2]
slept:5.0 (sick)

Warmup for sprint and relay. feeling a little sicker, had terrible night's sleep (worry about family at home, and sickness combined)

Orienteering race (sprint) 23:35 [4] *** 2.9 km (8:08 / km) +100m 6:56 / km
ahr:162 spiked:8/12c (sick) shoes: Adidas Supernova Trail

Mispunch on 4 was a great embarrassment, as was the mixup that caused it on control 2 (lost concentration, thought I'd done 4). After control 5, ran and navigated very well, but the start of my first sprint was a good learning experience. Hard to ratchet up the effort - I currently have only two orienteering speeds (stop/walk and go). This is worth working on.

Orienteering race (relay) 33:58 [4] *** 3.8 km (8:56 / km) +165m 7:21 / km
spiked:13/14c (sick) shoes: Adidas Supernova Trail

Lead off fo'r 8 point relay - 'orange' course. What a blast! Madhouse at start, quickly established groupings, and after a while found I was able to keep map contact while following the better women (Brautigam and Reilly?). Fun to see them make different choices, and decide who I thought would be faster to follow. Was with them up the big hill to the spectator control, and got cocky.... Pushed hard enough to turn brain off at second to last control. Followed one woman to wrong control (very slightly different location) and that sent me to a tizzy, unsure if last punch was right... so I turned around 100m and confirmed that, then ran to correct go control. Lost 1.5 minutes there. Still, we were in 3rd place, and i found out what it must feel like to actually run hard while navigating. Great learning experience.

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2]
rhr:52 slept:8.0 (sick) shoes: Adidas Supernova Trail

Warmup for pig day 1. Slight cold.

Orienteering race 44:20 [4] *** 4.4 km (10:05 / km) +180m 8:22 / km
ahr:158 spiked:10/13c (sick) shoes: Adidas Supernova Trail

Good fun! Navigation went better than expected, didn't try to push speed too much. Lost a minute on last control - aimed too far off to right.
