rhr:44 slept:6.5 weight:182.5lbs shoes: Asics 2170-2014

Dropped car off at shop, long way home, picked up at noon. Felt pretty good.
And still almost no neck/arm pain

BikeCommute 20:00 [1]

Unexpectedly Karen suggested that we bike to the neighbor's graduation party, so i went with it. Very slow and easy ride, nor problems. We'll see if any consequences ensue for my neck/arm.

Trail Run 25:35 [3]
slept:6.0

BNP around beefey woods and garden bowl to scout sites for field botany (none suitable for finding new or interesting plants- wound up doing grasses and sedges in the lab).. Very slow, lots of stops to peek and poke. Wearing old shoes I keep in my car because i forgot good ones.Felt fine.

Yesterday and today i realized that i have had only very slight arm/shoulder/neck pains - about the level i had several weeks ago. I need to nurse this along and settle in to a solid pattern of no pain before I try riding again. But, so far so good!

NEON trip to Rising Valley park (Cleveland Metroparks). I had no idea such pristine wetlands could be found in our area, let alone so near BNP! Stupendous day, walking sold from 9:15-3:45 off trail, in water up to mid thigh at times, and thick veg the rest. Saw tons of uncommon, rare, and even threatened species, dozens of sedges i had never seen before, and generally a biology paradise. This area (along the rocky river's headwaters) is not open to the public, so the wild part is more of a preserve than a park. So happy i could go there! I was on cloud nine and tired for hours afterwards

Trail Run 30:00 [3]
shoes: Asics 2170-2014

Intended to run wetmore, but trailhead closed due to the flooding damage from last week. Parked at the maple picnic area and ran south on the valley floor trail, then north into the horse area south of wetmore, poking around to see the substantial flood damage. Stayed well within myself.
Yesterday I felt no more (and perhaps less) neck and arm pain than before, so i don't think running is the culprit. So i will ramp that back up, and will stay off the bike for a few weeks to isolate each activity. Felt even better today - only minor and occasionally unnoticeable discomfort. Continuing traction.

Still concerned about neck, no improvement despite continuing 2/day traction. I would have been in the gym on the stationary bike (which helped me progress last time), but this week the gym is closed.

Control collection with DaveK and Jay. They were training for their big pack trip, so we walked (them with packs). Then i ran back to get home for more gardening (big garden work day). They went on to collect most of the rest of the controls. Beautiful spring day, sunny, mid 50s. Flowering about a week late (still).

Brecksville. 50s, hard rain yesterday, drizzle on and off today, earlier this week some massive flooding (which really eroded a lot of stream beds (4-5' walls). Epunch, Hendrix design (he is improving). The red course was 7.1 and had some major steep climbs so I drew both the red and green courses to give me options (i'm not in shape for a long hard one yet, they shared the same first 5 controls). I was slow and rusty, and didn't hold bearings well. Also, very slippery conditions in this steep environment, and lots of water to fall on my map and glasses. I hit control 5 at 30 minutes which meant a 2 hour forecast, so I bailed out to green. UP to that point the controls were excellent. After that they got easier (even to white level), and often encouraged travel through private property. Felt good overall, nice day to be out

Milwaukee on research trip. easy run on urban streets to explore the area. no calf problems, and neck is gradually better- not fixed yet, but improving/.

Spent almost all day standing bending and such to process about 1000 plants today (3 blocks). Another 1000 to be done with stage 1, then if time permits, harvest the 'neighbor' plants (about 4000 to do). We'll see how that works. Tired, not too sore at day's end

Quail Hollow Score event. Good turnout, met some ex-students and also Phil Wadsworth. Overcast and cool, muddy conditions. Ran steady and easy, cleared the course except for two white controls that weren't convenient, and decided not to do the extra trail running during my recovery. Felt good - no real problems with running though the last half hour i was a little weaker. Navigation was shaky in places, drifted well off bearing a few times.

neck was better today. I am starting to think that stress and lack of sleep played a role in the relapse. Still sore, but better.

Singer Lake Bog - over an hour on the mat + walking there and back. Noticeable effort to highstep through sphagnum hummocks. Hot (83). Most of the leatherleaf flowers seem to have been frostnipped except on the margins. Few bombus, all impatiens
Neck is slightly better, but I think it may have been the biking. About at the level of discomfort i had after slight improvement when in PT. Continuing twice a day traction

Trail Run 26:00 [3]
slept:5.5 shoes: Asics 2170-2014

After a day of ORAM course in Columbus, went to three creeks metropark and ran along alum creek. Warm day, very pleasant. Garlic mustard in early flower.
Neck and shoulder were really hurting again this morning - used heat rub and ibuprofen. I suspect this is a result of either the o training, or the stress of the last few weeks. I saw the first signs of it sunday night (minor ache in bicep), and monday evening it was noticeable. I don't think it is a result of the biking because of the timing. But i'll watch that
