Set and collect Hinckley courses. Despite gloomy forecasts, only scattered clouds, no rain, and a great day for O. Set white course (31:22, including some doublechecking) after putting out the ledges controls. Then checked a couple. Courses were a bit too long (7.5K red, 5.1 green) for this crowd, and especially so because one control (R3, G3) was stolen overnight, causing lots of searching and pileups. Major pain! I confirmed that it was gone later on, but times were over 2 hrs for both courses. Did get some compliments on mixing up leg lengths. Heard people comparing route choices (they saw what I'd seen in design). Overall I feel both satisfied (it felt good) and unsatisfied (the missing control really spoiled the experience).

Setting Hinckley course in 50F drizzle. Slippery and glasses hard to see through. Mostly finding way by memory now, checking against map to learn more. Finished around 55 min, then did some learning - map contact, compared to routes to a control - straight was 3:26, trail was longer (~30%), but it turned out also hard to see so I ran past the fork - 5:50 to control. Not a fair comparison, but instructive.

Hinckley control checking for oct 23 meet. this is the head scratching, walking, re-orienting part. All but one of the prior-placed locations was right (the bad one was where the map had worn out last time). The mapping at the south end is wrong (missing at least one road and trail, lots of very dark green that isn't on there, and ledges/cliffs aren't right).
Had to add in some extra control to lead people around the sketchy parts of the map - shame because of the detailed terrain that would be fun to use as a challenge if it were well mapped.
