Very light riding with natalie around the neighborhood - she refused to stop now that she can ride the bike with hand brakes. I was sore from yesterday, and was taking the day off, but this was a good way to get some motion in. Rode for well over 1:15 total - prorated to 40

Orienteering race 15:00 [4] ***
rhr:46 slept:8.0 weight:176lbs shoes: Adidas Supernova Trail

This is the part of today's chagrin o-course (red, 5.1k 180m climb, full on treasure hunt for the most part) that I was able to push up to level 4. I took (gulp) 1:49 to do the full 5.1k course. I had serious trouble with four of the 14 controls. Three were mis hung (two of them by about 100 m each, the other one on the wrong feature (I thought). I spent a lot of time scratching my head over those, unwilling to give up. For all of them the several of us hunting agreed that we were in the right spot on the map, just no control. However, I blew one control completely, and spent a long time searching for it, and for another one I turned the map 90degrees off. This could have been a good day, but the treasure hunt threw me completely off stride. Sadly, they started with Control 3. See other entry for the rest of the day.

Orienteering race 1:38:00 [2] *** +180m
spiked:5/14c shoes: Adidas Supernova Trail

This is the head scratching and trotting part of the red course today.

Orienteering (control pickup) 52:00 [3] *** +126m
spiked:3/7c shoes: Adidas Supernova Trail

Was able to push a bit more on this, went better than race for the most part. Downpour before last control pickup made it very difficult to read map and navigate. Glasses fogged up, magnifier wet, very dim. My eyes are aging, and it sucks.

Running warm up/down 36:00 [2]
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline GTS5

Montreal - to convention center from dorm (7:30), then after 5k race ran down mountain (sometimes off trail) to finally find my way back and just got to ESA in time to give my talk

Running race 20:19 [5] 5.0 km (4:04 / km)
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline GTS5

ESA fun run - hilly course on trails and gravel roads and asphalt paths. Fun, nice. Couldn't push fast down hills - haven't trained to do that now that I think of it. Could have pushed harder on second half if not for that. Was pretty well within myself, but still a good hard effort. About 10/100 runners.
