Today I joined the UA Wellness center/Gym - commuting is not a viable way to get exercise for the near future, and i need to get with a program. Rode sitting bike, then strength/stretch. Starting easy. Not sure of a lot of the machines here.

Dr. Salerno is the calf/sports doc i saw today. Xrays confirm no physical problems (calcification, stress fracture) involved. palpation points to head of the gastroc. Says that though i've rested 2 weeks, i need to rest it 2 more weeks and that my problems probably come from not allowing full recovery. I can do anything that doesn't bother the calf (that means no running; but biking is out until i figure out the cause of the neck/arm pain's recurrence). He says that i need to do a real warmup, then stretch, then workout, then cooldown, then stretch. That will be difficult to squeeze into the day, but it will just have to be what I do (it's what i did back in HS, but haven't had time for since) He suggested heat on the calf, and to heat it up with a hot pad before exercise, and ice it afterwards. Gave rx for PT to get a program set up for that. Also suggested those weird calf bands to keep the muscle warmer. This has tilted the balance - if i'm going to do this recovery, i will not be able to do it while commuting, so i am going to join the UA health center/ gym (fortunately the price has dropped a lot over the years) and start working out at school (non-running), since the ONAT (free) is not open at convenient times.

Dog park trail. 4 on and 39s walk. Stayed well within myself. Stretch pre and post. No problems with calf. Neck is still a big psin

Time to try once again to recover. Mustill store to memorial, run about 4min, walk 30s. Felt fine, and forced myself to run slowly. no calf issues. Beautiful fall day, great to be out.
Since last weekend the neck has gradually gotten stiffer, then the pain under my shoulder started growing, and even some sensation in bicep to elbow. I am relapsing on the degenerated disk/pressure on nerve issue. I am full- on traction, and wondering if this was caused by the one road bike ride, or by the daily commute rides, or by being woken up 2x/night by the dog (and sleeping on the lazyboy from 4-6:30 most mornings), or by stress and tension.

mustill store. Neck is stiffer/sorer. Resumed twice daily neck traction. Calf seems fine now - continuing to stretch (not as much as I wish i did, but several times a day). Will start back up sunday (2 weeks)

Gingerly tried out biking - no problem! Each day the calf has improved by about 15%. Doing the best I can to stretch throughout the day, i think it's helping. I think biking is possible - i will try to ramp that up.
Impossible to get sleep now - dog gets me up at 2 and 4 most nights, can't get back to sleep easily, and he often whines after those. I am exhausted

Saw doc this afternoon - unsure about calf ('strain'?... in the same place), tennis elbow for right elbow (started hurting about 6 weeks ago after i hit it on something, but perhaps some repetitive action is at work here. Perhaps most recently painting?).
So, did the prescribed stretches for both ailments, need to get religion on that..
Calf still making me limp a bit, but no major pain unless i try to push off

After finishing off the house painting in the morning went to cascade and poked around. at 20+ minutes felt some tightness in the left calf stretched, stretched again, and at 30 had to stop! It's right where it was last time. walked with a limp about a mile back to the car. I am at a loss - i thought the slow buildup of the last weeks would do the trick. I wasn't as religious about stretching as I could have been, but i need to rethink all this.
