Orienteering race 2:22:02**** 8.1 km (17:32 / km) ahr:154 max:163
Long Red Course at the Team Trials on Jackie Jones Mt. This was a long, physical course that severely tested the limits of my knee. Originally, I was planning on finishing only some of the course, thinking that I couldn't complete the entire 8.1 km. But, by the time I decided I had had enough, there was no good way back to the finish, so I decided just to do the whole thing.
I was extremely slow, and made some bigger errors on #8 (got confused by the presence of more rock features than were mapped) and #15 (where I headed too far left to begin with and had to circle back to the road and start again). But mostly it was just difficult to move through the rocks and blueberry. Time to get serious about strengthening my quads.
Orienteering race 56:31 [4] **** 3.5 km (16:09 / km)
Red Middle course at the Team Trials. This went much better, navigationally, than West Point. I had small bobbles at a few controls...mostly running past them a bit and having to go back. The biggest problem today was trying to get through the blueberry. I still can't lift my leg very high due to my knee, so my foot kept getting caught in the blueberry. I'm still slower than before, but it seems to be improving with each race.
