Orienteering race 59:09 [4] *** 5.26 km (11:15 / km) +240m 9:09 / km

Green course at McKeldin, MD, for the Mid-Atlantic Champs. I was going to run Red, but after a late start from home and longer than expected drive, I dropped down to Green to ensure I would be done and ready for the relay. I had some sloppy navigating in the beginning and my legs felt tired for the first few controls because I had absolutely zero warm-up. But, it got better and I enjoyed the course. No after effects at all from my ankle twisting earlier in the week. The course was definitely hillier than what the course notes intimated.

Orienteering race 23:54 [4] *** 2.73 km (8:45 / km)

Afternoon sprint relay. Each leg was 2.1-2.7 km, and I was on a team with my sons, Tanner (16) and Graham (14). Tanner led off and because he DNF'ed on his earlier course, I was a little worried. I told him to just stay with the pack...and he did! He came in much sooner than I had expected, so that was great! And he had a good time. I went out on the second leg and things went much better than my first course. I hit the controls cleanly and felt like I was moving quite well. Although, my legs did feel a little tired. I'm not sure how I came in, placement-wise. Graham was our anchor leg and really had a fantastic run. He went out at the same time as Greg Lennon (M45) from our club, and finished with him, too! He even outsprinted Greg into the finish. Even though we came in 4th, behind 3 DVOA teams (argh!), we were the first QOC team (helped a little by a handicap for being female and young...guess which one applies to me!). So, a very fine day.

Went running with my neighbor again and averaged under 9:00 minute miles...yahoo!! It was freezing cold and my legs never did warm up. We saw a dead frozen salamander all curled up on the side of the road. The recent warm weather must have lured him out, only to be zapped by the cold.

Running (Trail) 44:21 [3]

Went for a trail run on a beautiful, warm afternoon. Everything was going well until I rolled my right ankle pretty badly. I hopped around for about 30 seconds and then continued to run. It's pretty sore after the run. I'll see what a little ice will do.

It was still pretty cold out this morning, but there was no wind, so it was tolerable. Other than the cold, it was a beautiful sunny morning. The sun was shining on Aquia Creek and the geese were heading south. I felt like I was just running at my normal pace, and maybe even a bit slower. But my final time shows I was actually cruising right along. Yea!

Sorry, but there was no way I was going running this morning. I opened the door to sub-freezing temps and a stiff breeze blowing. No thank you!

Cycling 30:00 [2]

I wasn't going to ride tonight, I swear!, but a slightly stressful evening at home made me think I probably should. And I do feel better now. There's just something about those endorphins.
