Orienteering race (MetrO - Wireless Hill) 39:19 [4] 7.85 km (5:01 / km)

Headed east from the start along with Fenry, Juffy, Wil and others. I didn't think we could get through the NE corner of the school so I doubled back and went out the cul de sac, whilst everyone else jumped the fence, stayed with Wil till around 8, whilst Fenry and Juffy got away.

I didn't like the look of the hill from 10 down to 9, so went straight to 11 and pretty much butchered the route choice from there. Got stuck with lots of people on the stairs up to 4. Went straight past 19 expecting a bigger concrete ruin, got down to the road before doubling back.

Wasted lots of time counting and recounting how many controls I'd done, instead of going hard for the finish.

Darling Downs to Claremont

Attempted slow and easy.

Plan went out the window when there was someone in sight when I got to the freeway, put in a big effort around Russel Rd to catch him. Pulled alongside to let him know I'd be sitting behind him to have a rest, rather than just sitting behind someone who wouldn't be expecting a passenger.

Took a turn after a while then had to work hard to stay in contact through the twisty bits and detour, although we had a long stoppage to let a train load of cyclist come through the laneway the otherway.

He turned off at Mt Henry, so I could relax for a while, then he dropped back in after Canning Bridge, so I had another short turn before he cranked it up heading to Mill Pt Rd.

Was making good time so went hard the rest of the way.

Claremont to Darling Downs

Standard sort of summer ride, flew out to the narrows, slogged down to Rowley Rd and cruised the rest of the way home.

Note
(rest day)

Fun day so far. Belinda woke me early to let me know her car has a flat tyre, so she was taking the ute and Ryan had wet his bed, so I'd better get up and sort them out.

Sheets quickly in the washing machine. Tyre change to stupid mini spare. Oh other back tyre is a bit flat, so pump it up with my track pump as that seemed like the easiest option.

Get the kids ready early and drop the flat tyre off at the tyre place. Drop Sophie at school, then have till 10am to meet them at Scitech. Back to the tyre place and get them to check the other tyre, it has a nail in it (the other had a very obvious broken off drill bit sticking out of it).

Get to scitech just as the kids are finishing their morning tea before going in. Have to go back down to the car to put a parking thing in the windscreen so I don't get a ticket, back up and wait 5 mins for the on person in front of me to pay, there eftpos is dead, I already gave most of my cash to the tyre place, down to the ATM downstairs, still dragging Ryan around.

Finally inside scitech, kids play for an hour or so, then Sophie gets sick and I carry her around for a while till the rest of the class is leaving, then head home with both kids sleeping in the car, eventually, after Ryan had a hissy fit because I'd given Sophie his water bottle and didn't want him to use it and get sick as well and he refused to drink from my water bottle.

BB, Jake, Chris, and I were joined by Karl making his return this week.

Karl led out hard through the warmup and since I was working hard to sit on Chris's wheel at the back, I've got no idea what was happening up front. But I was very glad we got a red light at Alfred Rd as I'd just detached.

Pace stayed high down to the North Freo sprint, where Andre jumped in and the lack of red light had me struggling to get back on. I was way off the back on both climbs.

Still put in a short token effort on the front after the tennis courts, only to be spat out the back as everyone went past. But was happy to stay on for the UWA sprint.

Running intervals (Kings Park Hill reps) 1:10:00 [5] 11.44 km (6:07 / km)

Big turn out of crazy buggers today - tRicky, Andre, Juffy, and I waiting for Wil who eventually turned up.

Same hill as the last 2 weeks, but 4 mins hard, 2 mins jog recovery, repeat 6 times.

Stopped instead of lapping at the start of the first rep so timings a bit stuffed up and since each rep was on a different part of the loop there's not much point comparing them. But we finished the 6th hard effort at the top of the climb on the 4th time round, so an extra time up the hill compared to the last couple of sessions and much less recovery.

the cool down is a bit long and painful on these sessions, but that's proably a good thing.

Running long (Kings Park) 1:30:54 [3] 15.04 km (6:03 / km)

Long, slow, easy.

Pretty much the same as last week, didn't have time to add any extra.

Mind wasn't functioning too well, spent half the run trying to work out if I should take my ute back to the aircon place, since it's already stopped working again, on the way to work. Eventually realised I don't have the ute today anyway. Then thought I'd missed a bit of the loop and a few minutes later realised I was where I'd planned on going.

Getting warmer and managed to avoid finding any drinking fountains once I started getting thirsty after about half an hour.
