Darling Downs to Claremont

Easy spin into work to hopefully get back to a normal training pattern.

I'm sure magpie season should have finished by now, but I still came under a sustained attack along Rowley Rd. Makes me think that now that shooting is a recognised adventure race discipline, surely we can develop that further into "riding shotgun", trick is shooting back over your shoulder and aiming based on the shadow in front of you.

Anyway after that brief distraction, I noticed the approaching dark clouds of good times goodness. Stopped to put my rain jacket on at the freeway, but was already somewhat moist.

Couple of guys caught me after Armadale Rd, so I sat in behind them and took it easy as they took turns. First time through the detour round the section of bike path that's disappeared as part of the freeway roadworks.

Continued to tail the guys taking turns through past Canning Bridge, was feeling guilty for being slack, but stuck to the plan of taking it easy and eventually they started to put in some effort and I let them go rather than actually work to close a gap and hold on.

Got to work and when I went to not have a shwoer, I seemed to be somewhat sandier than I've noticed before after a rainy ride.

Claremont to Darling Downs

Gentle ride home, down wind, up wind, down wind. Pretty disappointed with the standard of cyclists riding home, no one even looked like jumping in behind as a doddled past, and not a soul went past to give me a tow.

Need to remember to swap from sunnies to clear glasses when it starts getting dark. Once again got home, took glasses off and thought, oh it's not that dark after all.

Running (Balga loops) 57:12 [3] 6.51 km (8:47 / km)

Wil, Ann and I with directions from Fletch.

1 lap moderate, 1 surging the uphills, 1 surging the down hills, 1 hard, couple of minutes rest between each.

4:00, 4:07, 4:17, 3:59

Mostly matched speed with Wil, with him getting away a bit the last 2 or 3, particularly the last by which time I was struggling, but lungs are mostly clear now.

Oh, we didn't do run throughs this week, I did run throughs last week.

Unfortunately Fletch's car got broken, making future sessions from that carpark dubious.

And that's the end of Fletch's current program, so next week I guess we may start a new Fletch program and/or do a session at Kings Park.

Note

Don't really feel like I'm sick any more.

Had a only slightly productive 5 day weekend. Chopped up an old surfcat trailer and took it to the tip along with a collection of old car batteries and sump oil, did some weeding, bought a compressor with random attachments and played with the nibbler and inflated every tyre I could find anywhere near the shed, and mowed the lawn and didn't get round to fencing, slashing, spraying, chainsawing or anything else really productive.

According to philmaffetone, my maximum aerobic training heart rate is probably 137 bpm at the moment and since this kinda works in with something I read years ago and tried to follow for a while (but more like 160 bpm), I might try using this as a target HR for commute rides and long runs, but first I'll need to get one of my chest straps working, or buy a new one.

Anyway, still no ride for tomorrow, but will test the lungs running after work and possibly pull the pin after the warm up.
