Rogaining race (The Schulstaad Watlz 24hr) 11:45:35 [3] 45.0 km (15:41 / km)

Just after midnight we crossed paths with Wil and Mark on our way from 91 to 83, a very quick exchange of progress reports and it then felt like a case of half time, change sides from were everyone else was to the darkside, we didn't see another team for the next 9 hours.

Were probably heading on track into 101, but went astray at the last minute and headed north of it, eventually worked out what was happening and went back to it pretty much just past were we'd been heading. Similar trick for 81 but worse as we'd came in on the north side of the spur that was north of it, screwed around going further north then headed back but screwed around a bit more still on the wrong side of the spur, eventually found it in a very broad gully which didn't look too watercourse like considering the conditions.

So we were now about an hour behind plan around 3am (after dropping 23 around midnight to try to get a bit more back on track).

Worked hard, concentrated on the nav and slowly got ourselves back on track (oh we dropped 41 along the way as well).

Well nearly back on track, if we'd got 74 at 10am, we would have been set to close it out, but we didn't find it, we spent heaps of time trying but eventually cut our losses and went for 95, but that didn't work for us either since we'd been no where near where we thought we were, in the mean time I'd hit the wall. Then we got lucky and hit a track which at least was heading back towards the HH, so we headed that way and it turned out to be the one to take us nicely towards 46, so we at least got that and 86 on the way back.

But we lost 370 points there from our end game, which was unfortunate. But at least we know we gave it our best chance and if we'd managed to hold the plan after picking up the extra control early on we would have equalled the winning score, but Wil and Mark could carry it off, this time we couldn't, hopefully we're getting closer.
