Darling Downs - Claremont

Erred on the side of not being sensible and rode in despite not feeling too good.

Things felt considerably colder for the last couple of k's to the freeway.

Plodded along with a grumpy tummy until some guy came past along the drag strip, towing someone wearing a tracksuit with the pants tucked into his socks. So I suffered the indignity of jumping in behind them for a while. When trackieman went to the front the other guy let him go, I couldn't work out what would be worse, letting him go or sitting behind him, eventually after getting past some slow riders, I chased down trackieman and went straight past as he seemed to be fading.

More plod the rest of the way to work. Failed to choose the correct back roads to get the few hundred extra meters to the new office, so doddled down the Stirling Hwy footpath instead.

Claremont to Darling Downs

Managed to navigate the back roads from the new office to Princess Rd. Hard work into the NEly to the narrows. Some guy went past going over the narrows so I caught and sat behind for a short while, then took a turn in front till I found he'd disappeared by Canning bridge.

Someone else went past going over Mt Henry and he managed to loose me in the twisty bits and slow riders. Was apparently going ballistic round the end of Roe Hwy, with the GPS slowly climbing over 100kph. Soon after I thought I was averaging over 30kph, until I realised I must have got a few extra random k's thrown in by the GPS aberration.

Had to stop and plug my headlight battery in properly, so I cloud get some light out of it.

Nice speed along Rowley Rd, till I fell in a heap a couple of k's short of Tonkin Hwy. Eventually a got a message along the lines of "That's ...... piss weak, got on with it" followed by "The trash heap has spoken", so despite the stench, I pushed on the last bit.

Pity stupid Garmin connect won't upload my data, I seem to have a max speed of 134kph. Might be time to grow up and use something better.

Running long (Seville Grove - ChampLake) 1:31:49 [3] 16.06 km (5:43 / km)
ahr:152 max:164

Another run from Ryan's kindy. Wasn't feeling great this morning, so took my time to get started and made it a bit shorter.

Despite the nice sunny day, there were still plenty of wet areas along the river and the mega foot deep 50-100m long puddle cutting through to Tonkin Hwy.

Note
(sick)

Slight sore throat yesterday seems to have caught up with me. Spent most of the day laying on the couch trying to sleep, whilst Ryan played with some toys and watched Diego.

BB and I this morning so at least I got to offload one set of Espresso shirt and winners jacket.

Weather went from wet roads to rain early on and my contact lenses went from not seeing much to seeing f all as they explored parts of my eye that don't really need their corrective powers. Thought BB would loose me at this stage as a couple of other guys had filled my spot behind him.

Spent most of the time hanging off the back as conditions weren't good for sitting in close and my contacts continued to object to doses of heavy spray and grit and crap.

Running hills (Durston intervals) 1:13:01 [4] 11.72 km (6:14 / km)
ahr:148 max:186

Bottom to top, each rep gets shorter by 2 light poles (till there are none).

Ended up doing 2 sets, but left out the longest rep on the second set.

set1 set2
1 - 700m 3:13
2 - 620m 2:54, 2:58
3 - 530m 2:25, 2:32
4 - 410m 1:55, 1:55
5 - 300m 1:20, 1:25
6 - 190m 0:52, 0:47
7 - 90m 0:20, 0:18

After the first rep I waited for Wil to catch up and did the rest of the set with him, so we both pushed each other really hard and I would have been happy to finish after that set.

I was very happy when we didn't have to do the longest rep in the second set. Wil and I gave each other a bit more space and didn't push each other so much on this set, but times only blew out slowly. Waited for Wil for the last rep so we could have a sprint finish, which was fun, since that last rep is so short.

Running (Matilda Bay - Kings Park) 50:26 [3] 9.68 km (5:13 / km)

Medium dist. random run.

Had thought about trying for the 13km in an hour again, but probably lucky to get started too late to fit it in. Really struggled to get up to speed.

Heading back along the western edge of Kings Park, I'd popped out 30 or 40m in front of some guy. He eventually caught me and blasted past just before Poole Ave, then stopped for a rest.
