Orienteering (Malmalling) 1:16:48 [3] 6.19 km (12:24 / km)
ahr:123 max:176

Arghhhhh

If I keep training like I have been lately I should be completely unable to find anything at all by the end of the year.

Started off OK to 1 but took nearly 12 mins to get 2 looking way too low down the side of the hill. Sloppy to 3, OK to 4, sloppy to 5, was a long way off course to 6 but corrected and somehow found it, stuffed around a bit to 7. Took 19 mins to find 8, kept going back to what I thought was the big rock surface to the south, eventually worked out I was going from the rocky area NE of the rock surface. Sloppy again to 9 followed down the gully to the south of the control when I though I was following the water course just north of the control, worked it out eventually. But I blitzed the last two controls.

If I take off the half an hour for 2 and 8 then it would just about bring me up to crap standard.

Orienteering (Malmalling) 17:30 [3] 2.82 km (6:12 / km)

Since I'd taken sooooo long on the first course, I took Craig up on the offer of a guided tour with him and Ben around most of the loop I'd already done (missing 6,7,8). Unfortunately I didn't have much time to look at the map and I was lagging a bit far behind to hear all of Craigs commentary, and heading down to 9 Craig and Ben disappeared down the hill as I couldn't keep up and they popped out from the control just as I was about to go past it. Still well worth the run just to see the speed involved. Thanks for the course and the run Craig.

Road Bike (Darling Downs to Claremon) 1:26:58 [3] 47.06 km (32.5 kph)
ahr:165 shoes: Road Bike - Giant Defy2 (I thi

Fully unleashed the superpowers of non-baggy shorts (and favourable winds) this morning. Really fast on Rowley Rd, smashed the mini hils on the freeway, cruised the drag strip (canning hwy to narrows) until a couple of waso's and another guy came past and I latched onto them. Flew with the wind round Mounts Bay and destroyed the Princess Rd hills, to knock another 2 minutes off the world record for riding from my place to my work.

Only problem was early on when I had a drink and then spent the next 10 minutes coughing and spluttering, so only had a few sips the rest of the way.

Road Bike (Claremont - Darling Downs) 1:41:54 [4] 47.77 km (28.1 kph)
ahr:156 shoes: Road Bike - Giant Defy2 (I thi

Felt like a tormentuous wind, into the wind to the narrows, into the wind down the freeway, into the wind along Rowley Rd and finally all was good in the world with a tail wind along Tonkin Hwy (well I felt good to finally make reasonable speed without much effort after 90 mins of tormentuousness, but recent wind patterns are just all wrong).

Oh and felt pretty crude most of the day, stomach more crude riding home, drinking water seemed to just mobilise lots of scungy stuff in my throat resulting in lots of coughing and spluttering, drinking powerade seemed fine it must be too sticky to mobilise scingy stuff, oh and I really like the powerade flavour that tastes like the original tropical gatorade back when it use to come in a glass bottle.

Paddling intervals (Champion Lakes) 1:09:14 [4] 9.13 km (7.9 kph)
ahr:136 max:170 shoes: Bashed up SRS

Slight change of plan this time changed the intervals to the first lap instead of the second and did 200m efforts instead of 100m still with 100m rest.

Outward 200's
1:09, 1:10, 1:11, 1:12, 1:11, 1:12
Return 200's
1:16, 1:18, 1:13, 1:12, 1:14, 1:17

2nd lap continuous effort 30:08

Wind was a bit fickle, looked like the seabreeze was going to come in a couple of times, but it was mostly the never ending NEly.

Running (Champion Lakes) 12:23 [3] 2.42 km (5:07 / km)
ahr:154 max:165

Belinda's finally decided my idea of getting up early and going to work to beat the traffic is a good idea, unfortunately this means I'm probably not going to fit in any morning runs before she leaves for work.

So I tried to fit in a short 30 minute run straight after paddling before going to get Ryan from Kindy and racing over to get Sophie from preprimary. By the time I started running I had about 20min. But didn't get far before needing to make use of the facilities (which turn to be of a much lower standard near the swimming beach than over on the island).

So didn't get far but at least got a bit of a loosener in.

Road Bike (Floreat Renegade FULL) 1:27:52 [4] 46.11 km (31.5 kph)
ahr:173 max:249 shoes: Road Bike - Giant Defy2 (I thi

By the superpowers of non-baggy shorts I finally held on for the whole ride, although I was a long way off the back at the north freo turn around.

Now I'll need to work out some suitable places to try to lead, that won't result in me going straight off the back again and won't leave everyone behind having a snooze.
4 PM

Note

After yesterday finalising teaming up with Jim Langford for the next Rogaine. Got the news this afternoon that his injured himself and I need to look for a new partner.

Anyone else up for taking on the likes of tRicky and Juffy or Andre and Owen?

Otherwise I may need to try the "if you can't beat them join them" option, I'm thinking a team of five, then everyone can win ;) who ever can sprint in fastest from the last control gets bragging rights.
5 PM

Running intervals (Grass Farm + sandhills) 55:00 [5] 8.81 km (6:15 / km)
ahr:148 max:189

Two laps of grass farm loop with jog recovery plus 4 mins rest in between.

9:28 and 9:58

First loop tried to hang on to Tooms and Karl, but they got away on the big hill. Greg came past on the sandy downhill, but he looked tired and I got past him again before he could open a gap and he lost ground the rest of the way back.

Second loop started out running with Greg until near the top of the big hill when he came back to life and took off down the sandy downhill. Good to see him recover and catch Tooms.

Over to the sand hill, two reps.

0:51 0:54

Had Luke close behind me on the first rep. which gave me some extra motivation. Second started with Tooms and Luke, Luke was off in front and I was trying to follow Tooms' footsteps pretty unsuccessfully as they were still caving in as I was trying to step in them.

Orienteering (Malmalling NE) 3:08:23 [3] 15.97 km (11:48 / km) +315m 10:44 / km
ahr:130 max:188

Got there late, started even later by the time I got myself ready. Crossed paths with a few of Fletch and Craig and tRicky along the way early on.

Found it difficult to have any confidence that I'd got the the right spot without any controls or tape to tell me I'd got there. So spent lots of time trying to make sure I was there.

Nearly bailed going for 18 but inadvertently recognised I was on the spur just north of 11 so finished off the last few controls. Stopped my watch then realised I was on an on mapped track which ran west from the start triangle.

Surprised to see another car still around when I eventually finished around 11:00.

Now to analyse my track and try to work out how close I got to those controls.

Oh well, judging by Tooms's route I was nowhere near 8, 9, 10 and 11 and a bit off 20 and 21, and some of the others may be questionable as well.
