With the kids on their bikes. Ryan struggling to stop properly so adjusted his brakes when we got home so he can reach them easier. And heading into the E'ly was hard work for the kids.

Seems to be a while since I was out on the bike so went for a short spin before picking the kids up.

Quads didn't feel like pushing, either still recovering from 6 inch and/or not doing much for a week.

Running race (Six Inch Trail Marathon) 4:56:36 [3] 47.64 km (6:14 / km) +994m 5:38 / km
shoes: Speedcross 3 No. 1 bright gree

Started off and before long I was heading up the hill with Juffy. I think once up the hill I picked up the pace a little and Juffy dropped back.

Dolf came past once we were onto the Mundi Biddi so I went with him and we ran together for quite a while, probably a little faster than I planned but still comfortable. We had no one else in sight ahead or behind for a while until a little pack caught us and we stayed with them.

Dolf walked and dropped back, maybe around 13km and I didn't see again till he caught up when I stopped for a leak just before the conveyor belt. After a while I couldn't quite stay with Dolf and he stayed around 50m ahead for quite a while, even with him having a few short walks I didn't catch him.

Eventually heading up the steep rutted track on the out and back Dolf stopped, possibly for a spew and by the time I passed him after the turn he was a fair way back, with Andre closer behind me.

Back past the start of the out and back and I was starting to think I had a chance of being 1st AP'er as long as I could hold off Andre. By now my legs were getting very tight and it was very hard to get back up to any speed after a walk. I stopped for a little stretch then a bit later tried to loosen up a tight spot in my back.

Around 41km Andre caught me and he seemed to be moving much better than me and it was real hard work to stay with him, a couple of times he eased up to give me a reprieve. Brought back memories of other good times with Andre, like racing against him at the end of KillaAvon, finishing the Aus champs rogaine with him in Tassie a few years ago, and the end of the last Espresso with him, Fletch and Kris Plain, trying the out run Wally, Jake and Leah. All those good times.

We had a couple of little walks and on one of them KellieW went flying passed, so of course I tried to go with her but she was moving well and easily got away but in the process I got away from Andre. The last few k's I just chugged along without any walks cause it was just so hard to get going again if I did walk.

Happy to get in under 5 hrs, the new course with an extra couple of k's and climbing the evil rutted track on the out and back is a lot harder than the old course. So 4:56 compared to 5:15 I did on the old course 3 years ago is pretty good.

Thanks to Juffy for a lift to the start and Dolf for setting a nice pace for a long time and Andre for pushing me near the end.

Shorter hills run today. Legs ticking over nicely and striding out coming down the hill.

Been playing with Paula's evil stick (roller) again, thinking maybe that's what I'd been doing around a month ago when my legs were feeling good, hopefully I'm onto something there :)

Byford to Claremont

Got up before my alarm went off and was pretty much ready to go at 5:30, after rescuing the cheapo gazebo that's meant to be over the blowup pool. But I was feeling a little tired, so I lay on the lounge for a while, eventually got a blanket cause I was feeling cold. Woke up at 7:00, oops.

Strong E'ly blowing leaving home, legs didn't want to play so not real fast to the freeway. Wind seemed NE'ly heading up the fwy which made me :( and slow.

Plod, plod. Jumped on behind 3 fast kids after Canning Bridge, eventually let them go when some of the overtaking got a bit dodgy. Then someone we'd just passed went by so I went with him.

Eventually got to work.

Quite a few people around Narrows to Mt Henry so a bit of fun and games to make the work into the wind a bit easier, then plodded the rest of the way home.

Road Bike (Commute) 1:33:13 [3] 50.43 km (32.5 kph) +174m
shoes: Azzurri Forza

Byford to Claremont

No wind around when I left home, got a bit S'ly heading up the freeway. Felt like a mostly cruisey ride. Someone got on my wheel at Mt Henry and after a while he went past so I sat on his wheel. We were doing 42kph without too much effort when some old guy blasted, so we went with him at 48kph, still not having to work too hard to stay with them.

Through the underpass looping past the narrows and there was a strong E'ly blowing across Perth water, back past the narrows and still S'ly blowing across Meville water.

Got to work in very good time :)
5 PM

Road Bike (Commute) 1:56:35 [3] 50.04 km (25.8 kph) +207m
shoes: Azzurri Forza

Claremont to Byford

My legs were struggling from the start. Even with what I thought was a tailwind I was barely doing 30kph. So eventually did my ritual paranoid stop to check my brakes weren't rubbing. Nup, urgh, suffer time.

Over the narrows and the headwind was evil so I quickly caught some guy who looked like he'd make my life easier and I sat on his wheel/shoulder trying to find the best spot to hided from the wind.

I took a short turn before Canning Bridge but told the guy I wouldn't last long. He went back past and before long I gave him a thanks and dropped off as I was really suffering. Settled into struggle mode for a while untill two guys went past before Mt Henry so I went with them.

Had to smash hard after Cranford to catch them after I got held up by traffic, then they were held up by a slow rider anyway. Didn't stay with them long before deciding trying to stay with them was futile and I dropped off and spent the rest of the ride in suffer mode trying to get avoid blowing out over 2hrs.

No relieve along Rowley Rd still couldn't hold 30kph. Got to the Kardan Flags which showed the wind was SW'ly, so meh even with partial tailwind I was still suffering.

At least I made it in under 2 hrs. Maybe the mornings fun took a bit out of me, otherwise meh.

Mtn Bike (Langford Park) 1:00:31 [3] 12.36 km (12.3 kph) +234m
shoes: Scott Spark 60 2011

Legs were still sore from yesterdays run so decided on an easy ride at Langford Park. Had the place to myself as usual and randomly cruised around like normal.

Surprised to find another car in the carpark when I finished with a couple of people having lunch, felt like my personal space had been invaded.

Headed for the hills, opposite direction to normal, a bit further north up in the hills than normal, ended up with more steep hills than I wanted.
