Orienteering race 21:36 [5] 3.41 km (6:20 / km) +1m 6:20 / km
shoes: INOV8 Talon 200

After a day of rest at Yellow Wood, I was not sure how I would do since I re injured my leg on Friday. Saturday I felt good so thought I would give it a go. I tried warming up and felt a lot of pain when pushing off. The start was awkward for me and sort of carried on from a series on mistakes in getting ready so I could start early. I left my shoes at the hotel so had to go back for them and then at the last minute after they called my name, I decided to go lighter in the wardrobe so changed shirts at the last minute. I then discovered that my fingerstick strap came loose and there was not enough time to fix it. So I just grabbed it between my thumb and finger and hit the controls that way. Pretty straight forward but #5 threw me off. I thought for sure there was a trap somewhere so I spent 30 seconds studying. I decided just to go into the Parking garage and there it was. The rest of the course was fine and ended up in 3rd place for the 1st stage. No pain at in my calf muscle so maybe I could try to run better in stage 2.

Note
(injured)

After a week of laying off my leg to heal, it was feeling pretty good while walking but so far had not put any pressure on it. So, I decided to try Fridays race and the Sunday Sprint while just taking photos on Saturday for OCIN. On Fridays race, I felt good but re injured the leg on the first mild hill I hit. I thought I would just limp the rest of the way but it did not seem to get any worse so just ran that way. I ended up keeping up with Chin through #7 but then lost it on #8. Seems like I would find every one of those pitts but the right one. Lost a lot of time on #8. Compass skills lacking? Just a bad day? I did discover that I picked up the wrong glasses and they had no magnification which explains why I could never read the map. However, that is no excuse for being way off on compass for every control. Have to work more on that.
