Running Smooth 15:00 [2]

Warm-up.
1 AM

Orienteering Forest 54:58 [4] 8.3 km (6:37 / km) +215m 5:52 / km

Final day of the WOC Tour in Open A1. Everything on the line in the overall fight with Thomas. I started with a mistake at the first control, came to the wrong control on a dot knoll, over-corrected and missed again and dropped 1 minute here. Ran well after this, caught up to a train with a NZ guy and a local Norwegian at control 4. Stayed with this group on and off until just before 10, where the group split in the attack. I took a longer route around to get it safe and it worked out. I got the control first and did not see the pack again. However, I was very tired in my running from this point, but had a clean run until the second last control, where I relaxed too much and thought it was the same control as yesterday. Lost maybe 30 seconds here. Was pretty sure Thomas would beat me when I finished, but it turned out he blew it at the end with a bad mistake. A win for me this time! I guess consistency pays off in a multi-day.

Running Smooth 15:00 [2]

Warm-up.
2 AM

Orienteering Forest 36:37 [4] 6.04 km (6:04 / km) +142m 5:25 / km

WOC Tour at GranĂ¥sen. A middle distance course on a small corner of the WOC Long Final map. Took the road around to the first control and read a bit of the course. Nailed first and second controls, but was too low on 3 and dropped at least 45 seconds. Had a little hook at 8 for about 15 seconds. I think I took the best route around on the trail to 9. Had to walk up the hill to 10, but tried to hammer down into the arena to the finish. Thomas missed 4 minutes on 8, so I beat him by almost a minute. I'm 29 seconds ahead after 3 days. Tomorrow it will be decided!

An easy run on the Sagelva training map. Just enjoying the soft fairy tale forest and the amazing marshes. Staying in full control and nailing all the controls, until suddenly... boom, turning into the wrong marsh towards control 12 and getting turned around. When it's not green, the terrain here is actually kind of easy. The grand marshes are everywhere and create massive attackpoints and handrails. But if you let your mind wander, you drift into the wrong marsh and then you are gone...

Warm-up cool down from our hotel to the arena and to the start.
4 AM

Orienteering City/Park 14:46 [4] 3.13 km (4:43 / km) +70m 4:14 / km

WOC Tour Sprint. Much easier course than the WOC final, not too much extreme route choice and no controls inside the fort. Still, enjoyed the controls in the park around the fort, but the controls in the residential area were too easy. Lost 10 seconds at 8, as the control was hidden in a corner under a canopy and lost 15 seconds to the last control, taking one wrong turn and then fighting through some bad slash. Felt really slow in the running in the last half of the course. Thomas now 26 seconds ahead in the Tour!

Running Smooth 25:00 [2]

Warm-up/cool-down.
2 AM

Orienteering Forest 49:46 [4] 7.12 km (6:59 / km) +180m 6:12 / km

WOC Tour race at Jervskogen, before the Long Q. Amazing terrain with open forests and wonderful marshes. Start was at the top, so a net downhill race. Had close to a perfect race, nailing all the control flags, and only some very minor problems on the routes. The terrain was tracking significantly though, and that was clearly some help, but I always picked the right tracks and was in touch with the map throughout. Physically, though, there is a lot missing. Wish I could run faster today... Still, had the best time of all the North American racers today and beat Thomas by 46 seconds, after he fogged up his glasses and ran blind the second half of the course.

Orienteering Forest 51:28 [3] 6.86 km (7:30 / km) +167m 6:41 / km

Ran a fun course on the WOC model map. Connected circles to make as long course as possible. Started with two controls in the green, then some really nice stuff on top, with great marshes and contour detail. Had a very good run with no mistakes, but was running pretty slowly. Great to get out in the forest finally.
