Orienteering race (Ansonia blue) 1:29:20 8.1 km (11:02 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Oroc 280
Gorgeous perfect fall conditions. Warm enough for the regular short sleeves club O-shirt.
Was quite worried that "a blue" would be way too much for me, and I'm sure that it is still true. Fortunately the course was really just a full on A-meet level red. So it was only the regular amount of too much for me.
Woods were wonderful. Open, pretty, tons of leaves on the ground, giving everything a warm orange glow. Many trails had all but disappeared under the leaves, but that was a bonus -- as I gradually stopped worrying too much about traills and instead focussed more on the contours, which is what I ought to be doing anyway.
Orienteering wise, pretty good. Really only one screw up - number 12. Hit the trail at the boulder pair south of the circle, but didn't even think about trying to deduce where I might be, and just blindly continued on my bearing down the hill side. Went down a couple contours, did a bit of left and right, and then said "Dude, stop being an idiot, go back up to the trail and locate yer self". Did that, saw the boulder pair, and probably said something not family friendly.
Speed wise, thought I was doing OK, until I saw the results. Wasn't surprised to see Joe's time. Different reaction to seeing some of the other times. ".. you will be quicker than me before too long." Yeah, right, not until something freezes over.
