JK2012 Day 2 Middle
the wheels came off this very early. had trouble getting into the map and matching up the vegetation so was slow into 1.
then i took a fall, smashed my compass into the heel of my hand, making a mess of blood and compass oil and plastic & skin. cleaned the wound (blood&oil doesn't taste too good) and ran around a bit, now without a functioning compass so controls 2 & 3 were a disaster.
4, 5, & 6 were ok considering but 7 went wrong and i had to ask someone which direction was north.
8, 9 & 10 were a bit dodgy, i only increased the pace on the obvious or taped sections.
11 got me as i thought i'd taken the southern crossing point and even then, coming out of the control i was disorientated and again had to check with someone where north was so lost time on the easy 12.
i was glad of the waterstop but didn't plan 13 properly at all and eventually came back to the track to relocate.
the rest of the course flowed ok but i wasn't moving at any pace.
got patched&cleaned up in first aid took out a bit more plastic and some thorns out of my hand and even some of my hand out of the broken compass!
reckon i lost at least 30mins on this by not having a compass but happy to have got around albeit the slowest time for the course.

JK 2012 Sprint
didn't run at this as fast as i could have. was concerned about the underfoot conditions (same for everyone i know but i felt like i wasn't racing it).
nearly 3 mins of mistakes as well as i royally messed up on 1, 10, 21 & 25. equally i crossed what i saw to be a gap in a hedge with crossable fence en route to 5 which would (looking back at the routegadget map) technically be a dsq i think.
anyway, i got around but wasn't prepared for a sprint map (has been too long since i was on one - of any scale!) or the conditions.

Note
(rest day)

had i not been in work on an early shift i would've got something done today (ideally orienteering-based). i had said that i'd organise a sunday running session for 5:00/5:30pm ish for motivation/commitment but the day had drained me & had to abandon.
