Orienteering race 35:13 [5] **** 5.6 km (6:17 / km)

O-Ringen Day 5 chase start. Met my goal of getting a new start number on day 5 and went out in 11th place, 50 sec. behind 10th but with 12th and 13th within 7 secs. after me. A race I am very pleased with, too bad that the organizers had to cancel the day and revert to day 4 results. Our first control was in the wrong pit! Lost about 1:40 before locating the control and continuing. At this point we were 4 people together (10th to 13th starters) and it was man-to-man racing the rest of the way in. From the 6th control (about 30% of the course) in I was in the lead and never gave it up, with the others anywhere from 10 to 50 meters behind. Body felt great and the navigation was perfect. Advanced to 9th place overall as we somehow passed another person without seeing him. Result is that I kind of met my goal of being in the top 10 at this years O-Ringen, although the official results will show 11th place. The most positive aspect is that I did this with more navigational mistakes than I normally would have over 5 days (particularly day 2) and that on 4 of 5 days I had the winning time within reach if I had been completely clean (with the day I was in the early start group as the only exception). Overall very satisfied with the week.
