11 AM

Orienteering - Bush 1:19:47 [3] *** 7.71 km (10:21 / km)
19c shoes: Saucony March 2015

O'Donnelltown Rock - East. Hard Long. 19 Controls. Nominal 5.8 km.

Arrived late about 10:45 am so since it was a minor course elected to do the "Hard Long" rather than 2 courses.

I was fairly happy with performance as came within 3 minutes of Nicolle Haigh and Nigel Thompson. Chose some longer track options to avoid green for legs like 5 to 6 etc.

As per revealed in splits lost time ("only" up to 2 minutes) on
1 (ran past it and was too low before turning around and seeing it),
2 (bit of confusion about the two watercourses crossing track),
7 (came from south and checked multiple watercourses on way up),
11 (contoured around too much and should have been more direct),
12 (entered too far north and then realised and backtracked) and
15 (arrived too far south and worked my way up).

No major screw-ups.

Having walked around the area the day before, and visiting 4 of the controls (!!!) was an advantage.
1 PM

Orienteering - Bush 32:24 [1] * 1.96 km (16:32 / km)
8c shoes: Saucony March 2015

O'Donneltown Rock East.
Control Collection.

Basically some of the Easy and Very Easy controls so not taxing.
All walking.
3 PM

Gardening - General 40:00 [1]

Time approximate.
Fire Pit - Post Storm Damage Burn-off #4

Really too windy so fire was raging.
I had to abandon it to let it burn down so I could load more on later.
5 PM

Gardening - General 30:00 [1]

Time approximate.
Fire Pit - Post Storm Damage Burn-off #5

Finally got rid off all the branches.
Still leaves scattered but too dark to see properly.
Will finish some time next week in daylight.

In total it took more than 4 hours.
But I don't have a trailer and even if I did have one it would have taken that long with multiple loads back and forth to the dump as it is approximately 25 minute one-way drive.

Orienteering - Bush 1:46:57 [1] * 5.65 km (18:56 / km)
7c shoes: Saucony March 2015

O'Donneltown Rock East.
Training Day organised by Josh Blatchford. Thanks Josh!

Skipped parkrun as didn't think I could fit it all in ... plus brought someone with me and timing / pickup would have been an issue.

Brought a total novice (never seen a map, never used a compass, never attended an event) with me and walked the Easy Course.
Corridor exercise was a bit of an eye opener for me and made me think differently.

By the time we got up to the 7 Control line course at the end my newbie friend had got a better idea and almost got to all of them without any guidance.

They said they enjoyed themselves and may attend another event in future.

Not enough time remaining for me to do the Hard corridor course but I got the general idea anyway.

Skipped "Newcastle Cross Country" event in afternoon as was very tired and elected to instead attempt to continue to restore order after all the storm damage.
3 PM

Gardening - General 1:00:00 [1]

Time approximate.
Fire Pit - Post Storm Damage Burn-off #2

Still trying to clear backlog. Lots of raking up leaves exposed on ground under branches.
5 PM

Gardening - General 40:00 [1]

Time approximate.
Fire Pit - Post Storm Damage Burn-off #3

Approximately 2/3 of the way through backlog.
Fire Pit overflowing with ash.
It was nice to have a helper.

Gym Mayfield - Class Weights 55:00 [3]

Chest track continues to be an absolute killer.
Body tired at the end of week.
Weighed the actual weights bar and found it is 3.4 kg so with the weights each end I am actually lifting over 25 kg already anyway!

Note

Home Phone and Internet restored again after a 2nd outage of 5 days!!
Damaged roads between work and home also starting to be repaired.
5 PM

Gardening - General 1:45:00 [1]

Approx 5:45 pm - 7:30 pm
Day trip to Sydney for work.
Skipped any gym training or running.
Struggling to fit everything in recently.

Managed to get a start on burning off the huge backlog of branches from storm.
Burnt less than half the pile whilst almost constantly throwing more on .... and not trying to get toasted or singe off too much hair on arms or legs.

Gym Mayfield - Class Weights 55:00 [3]

Tried going to 25 kg but gave up after warm up.
Used 22 kg again for remainder and chest still wanted to explode
6 PM

Run - Pure Newcastle 48:27 [3] 9.41 km (5:09 / km)
shoes: Saucony March 2015

Darby Street to end of Nobbys break wall and return.
Never been out to end of break wall at night ... At least I can't remember anyway.
Managed to team up with a few equally matched pace setters.

5 PM

Note

Started a gym session but then checked Facebook to find I had to be there by 6 pm not 6:30 pm so bailed.
All I got done was abs which felt great just in itself.
6 PM

Run - Maryville Magic Mile 6:17 [5] 1.59 km (3:57 / km)
shoes: Saucony March 2015

Maryville Magic Mile (1.6 km) Round 2 on western side of Carrington Park run course.
ABSOLUTELY SMASHED IT. ECSTATICALLY HAPPY.
First km in 3:45! I have NEVER EVER been under 4 minutes per km before.
Legs felt amazing and ran on the grass next to the concrete.
Lungs were screaming for air throughout.
Comparison to last time 4:02 / 2:45 and now 3:45 / 2:32 so sliced off 30 seconds.

Mind you last time I had already done 6 km in the morning, and Park Run and Cross Country two days before. Last night I hadn't run since about the prior Wednesday.
7 PM

Run - Wooters Training 25:10 [3] 5.02 km (5:01 / km)
shoes: Saucony March 2015

Interval training.
I was holding iPhone in right hand so I could stop timer during recovery.
Includes the warm up run and cool down run so total time not spectacular.

The core training for abs afterwards was an absolute sight to behold.
Is there any limit to the weird and wonderful ways you can test out your abs.
Great day. Really enjoying this.
