US Relay Champs. Leg 1 for 8-pt team HaHaHa.
I basically had three goals on the relay.
1. Don't let the team down.
2. Be less than 2 times the winning time
3. Push really hard.
I think I succeeded for all three.
My first Orange leg was a little faster than the 2nd leg runner who also ran Orange, showing the math we did for min/km was accurate and that I was the correct choice for leg one. The winning time was a little over 24 minutes, and I was about 41 and change (1000am start was a little late, and I started my GPS early and stopped it late, after tagging.). Finally, my Avg HR was 161 with a max of 185 during the run in. I'm pretty confident I couldn't have done much better.
The best part of the day for me was the run-in, where people were yelling, and I found some speed I didn't think I had. If I knew my HR was just 185, I would've dug a little deeper. I might have passed out, though. I guess I'm happy with the run-in.
I lost a few seconds at 2 when I checked my clue sheet---65---and saw 67 on the stand. After a few seconds I realized 65 was control 1, and 2 *was* 67. Then another 15 seconds at 6 when I got to a clearing and saw no control. I checked the angle of the shoreline and realized I was too far south, hopped down to the shore and ran along it to the control. And 60 seconds at 7 when I missed left and had to loop back (verified by GPS---I guessed 30---Crap).
