2022 Recap, since it seems to be a thing...
Less total time than last year. Ran far fewer long runs, more short runs with speedier bits. Runs over 10 miles are a rarity these days. Still plenty of walks/hikes, but less than the previous two years. No rogaines this year (they tend to contribute a decent chunk of time on the total). About the same amount of dirt running, but only about 30% of my previous mileage on trails.
Most of last year I focused on a slow, but steady attempt to reduce my girth around the mid-section through a combination of exercise and watching what I eat. Had managed to get down about 15# from last winter, but wound up adding a few on the LA trip which I haven't seemed to be able to get rid of again. But at least my BMI (per my primary doc) is now below the threshold for obese. Time for a renewed effort to put some more distance between myself and the obesity BMI.
Orienteered 90 times (events & trainings), 1112 controls in total. The most orienteering in a single year (27% of total time) since I joined the AP community 22 years ago. I attended all NRE's except the 1-Day COC event in February - 21 NRE days - 1 Red, the rest on Green. 3rd of 64 in M60+, 13th of 342 on Green. Starting in February I elected to try and run on a map at least once a week and had that streak going for 43 weeks but it ended when I wasn't feeling well in mid December. Will endeavor to restart the streak starting tomorrow - not counting today, starting with first FULL week - at least one map run per week, two if my schedule allows it.
Fairly arbitrary goals for 2023:
- Orienteer 100+ times, including at least once per week
- Compete at all NRE's with the exception of 1-Day Fee Waivers on the wrong coast
- currently Anza (SDO in Jan) and Fire Mountain (COC in Feb).
- that leaves 23 currently sanctioned events that I plan to attend
- plus 5-8 events in planning but not yet sanctioned - will definitely go to NEOC (2), most likely go to LROC/RMOC (1-3?) but COC (2) & CROC (1) are only a slim possibility.
- and of course, others may surface as 2023 gets underway.
- Attempt to get into the top 10 on Green. I doubt I'll make any positive progress in M60+, especially now that Darth Balter joins the crowd.
- Minimum 45 minutes exercise per day (walks ok) - no zeros
- Get weekly average weight down to 165 and keep it there.
- STRETCH GOAL: Get back enough speed to go under 20 minutes for 5k. This may well be beyond me at this point in life, but I can try.
- Make a concerted effort to noodle on the keys every day (when I'm not on the road)
- I may add to this list if additional things occur to me
