Run - Trail long (Home <> Soapstone) 1:50:36 [3] 20.0 km (5:32 / km) +465m 4:57 / km
ahr:125 rhr:42 slept:8.0 weight:75.7kg shoes: Adidas Response Trail XI

With gas nearing $3 a gallon, decided to run to forest rather than driving over. Much the same route as Wednesday, though cut cross country in a few places (about 10 minutes off trail total). Saw a fisher at close range on the south side of the mountain headed N, we kind of just stared at each other a few moments, then each headed our separate ways - closest I've ever seen one and in good light as well... very satisfying..

Got up to the usual Saturday meeting place at about 7:50, hung out and BS'd for 15 minutes, then joined Ken & Ken headed back around the mountain the way I had come in (Ken Clark running Muddy Moose tomorrow so he was just out for a short easy run). I cut off a couple miles in and headed S for home following the same mtn bike trails I did last week - not really sure why I don't follow them northbound, probably because the race course blazes lead me onward on the larger trail before it occurs to me to pick up the small singletrack...

Definitely getting colder on the return route, some sleet starting to come down. Glad I got the long run in this AM as tomorrow sounds pretty crappy...

Run - Road (Car Spot) 36:00 [3] 7.25 km (4:58 / km)
shoes: Kumasi GTX

After finishing up backpack, left pack with Jon & Jackson and ran N on Rt 41 back to Massachusetts to retrieve the car. Really dead legs coupled with heavier 'light hikers' made for a rather unpleasant road run in full sun. Pretty much stared at my shadow on the road and toughed it out for most of the distance - gauging my progress by the major streams I crossed (which we had crossed southbound up on the ridge.)

Hiking (AT Backpack) 8:00:00 [1] 15.0 km (32:00 / km) +900m 24:37 / km
shoes: Kumasi GTX

Backpack on AT w/ Jackson & Jon. Great weather. Race Brook Falls to AT, over Race Mtn and down to Laurel Ridge campsite. Then on Friday down to Sages Ravine and up Paradise Lane to Undermountain Trail opting to skip the steep N side of Bear Mountain. Mileage total is for both days. Climb on Thursday worth double as I was carrying two backpacks on most of the steeper, rougher climbing sections for Jackson, however he carried his pack the entire way on Friday...

Run - Trail tempo (Shenipsit SF) 1:18:45 [4] 15.0 km (5:15 / km) +365m 4:41 / km

Warm afternoon run up to the forest. Decided to try my luck on the 'trails' from the house. Jumped a few chains, dodged a few 'No Trespassing' signs, about a half mile of trail is now a common driveway shared by 3 McMansions - not my formerly pleasant trail, but not seriously blockaded and in 10 minutes I was up in the State Forest anyway.

Ran the half-marathon course up to Sykes Rd, then ran some singletrack mtn bike trails back. Ran 4x8min or so at brisk pace (level 4) on some of the windier sections of singletrack as well as the half marathon 'cross country' section which has been discovered by the bikers and is much less rustic than it used to be. Fun day to be out...

Off backpacking with Jackson tomorrow & Friday. Not sure what's on tap for the weekend...
