Orienteering (TrollCup Red 2) 1:14:30 [4] *** 6.8 km (10:57 / km) +275m 9:07 / km
(sick) shoes: Jalas Champion

Much better today, fairly decent flow, energy ok given my current fitness level, pulled up a little short on a couple of controls.

Orienteering (TrollCup White 2) 58:14 [1] *** 2.6 km (22:24 / km) +150m 17:23 / km
(sick) shoes: Jalas Champion

Shadowing Jackson - pretty decent extracurricular excursion along the lake, slow climbing the hill, but otherwise pretty good - running quite a few spots and realizing when things didn't look right and stopping to fathon where he was. 4th of 4 on M10, but we weren't expecting any more and he was quite happy with things...

Run - Road (Hare Rd 5k) 23:02 [3] 5.0 km (4:36 / km)
(sick) shoes: NB 474

late afternoon run on the dirt road, body generally achy..

Run - Mixed (Lunch Loop) 26:57 [4] 5.75 km (4:41 / km) +70m 4:25 / km
(sick) shoes: Adidas Response Trail 14

Haven't been getting out the door after work, so took the running stuff to work and forced myself to leave at noon for a shortish run. Up North Hillside, mostly running on grass, then down the dirt road chasing off a few turkeys, then across Hunting Lodge and through Shelter Falls out to North Eagleville and back to Subway for a sandwich. Good hard effort, no falls.

Hiking (Cross Campus) 25:00 [1] 2.8 km (8:56 / km)
(sick) shoes: Adidas Response Trail 14

Had to attend a Sustainable Development Workshop across campus - was running tight so it was a very brisk walk, about as fast as I could without running, definitely broke a sweat getting there. Then back and past my building to the far side of F lot to the car and home.

Orienteering (Sessions Orange) 1:23:11 [1] *** 3.9 km (21:20 / km) +85m 19:14 / km
spiked:11/11c (sick) shoes: NB 474

Went to Sessions w/ Hayden - but no e-punch on W/Y so Hayden decided he was game to try a 4km Orange course. Wasn't sure how it would go, but decided to try it anyway. I did the primary navigation telling Hayden what he should be looking for as we executed each leg, but allowing him to lead each leg and coaching him to jog where appropriate and to look ahead and choose good clean routes rather than getting hung up in crap. Saw Mr. Charlie a couple times and got passed by a couple of cadets, but basically a really clean course and a pretty good pace for a year old with short legs.

Run - Trail (Bike running) 58:00 [3] 9.35 km (6:12 / km) +40m 6:04 / km
(sick) shoes: NB 474

After Sessions we hopped in the car, stopped in Burlington at Friendly's for lunch then home to collect our bikes for a 2pm Cub Scout bike event on the rail trail in Vernon. Except I discovered that the hitch reciever on the van is 90% corroded away and the risk of leaving my bike on the highway was very high. And it doesn't fit inside the van either. So a quick change into running clothes and tossed Hayden's bike in the van and off to Vernon. A group of about 20 scouts and parents out for a ride on a gorgeous day and I ran with the group, usually with the front crowd. On the way back the other Clint (leader) had some bike issues so I was put in the lead - heading downhill on the trail and trying to keep a crowd of 2nd-4th graders in some sort of order on the trail and preventing them running down the other bikers/runners and walkers out. Held a pretty good pace on the way back keeping all the boys in line behind me (and wheels nipping at my heels). It was pretty funny to see the looks on some of the folks we passed as I had a train of kids on bikes behind me trucking down the trail. Certainly not a blistering pace, but probably about as fast as I'm capable of these days. Next weekend certainly won't be a fast weekend, but if I can run cleanly, I should be able to stay in the top half of the field with my current conditioning.

I see a Lyme specialist in a few more weeks and I'm really hoping she is able to come up with something to resolve this - the overwhelming fatigue and muscle issues are really beginning to take their toll....

Hiking (Blackledge Falls) 1:00:00 [0] 3.0 km (20:00 / km)
shoes: NB 474

Family Hike at Blackledge Falls (southernmost part of Gay City map). Walked N along the marsh to the powerlines, up the hill, then down to the falls. Amazed Jackson by telling him to go look over a spur to find a ruin, and various other features as we walked. Then he figured out that I had made the map. Showed them a whole bunch of charcoal platforms and Anna collected some pieces of charcoal from one of them and proceeded to make a nice charcoal drawing of an elf when she got home. Finished the day off with dinner at Harry's place in Colchester (a family tradition)

Hiking (Campbells) 1:00:00 [0] 3.0 km (20:00 / km)

Got out of work early enough to go hiking with the family and the Gresh clan. Nice walk along the ridge and back.

Run - Trail (Shafran) 28:41 [3] 5.25 km (5:28 / km) +95m 5:01 / km
weight:75.7kg (sick) shoes: NB 474

early morning jaunt at Shafran - lots of leaves down, tripped a couple times, missed a couple of trail turns so it morphed from the LoDFP into a modified clover leaf. Nice morning to be out...

Run - Road (SLR) 9:19 [3] 1.7 km (5:29 / km)
shoes: NB 474

To & from the trailhead at Shafran

Run - Trail (Birch Grove) 45:00 [0] 3.0 km (15:00 / km)
shoes: NB 474

Terrain walk w/ Jackson while Hayden played soccer. Some off trail, some trail, a little jogging, mostly walking - over to High School, then back behind BG. Would stop occasionally and have Jackson describe the feature we were stopped at - lots of knolls, veg edges, narrow marshes etc.. Gorgeous day in the woods.

Bike - Recumbent (FV Rail Trail) 1:00:00 [1] 13.2 km (4:33 / km)
shoes: Slipstream

Wow - four colors in one day.....

Afternoon ride on the rail trail in East Granby with Hayden.

Friday Oct 10, 2008 #

Bike - Recumbent (Lake & back) 18:50 [4] 7.75 km (2:26 / km) +55m 2:21 / km
shoes: Slipstream

nice day, home early enough to jump on the 'bent for a quickie. Decided to push it as hard as my lame muscles would go. Less than 20 minutes, but worked up a good sweat and the quads were throbbing by the time I got back... Good to get out...

Bike - Recumbent (Lake & back) 35:00 [1] 6.25 km (5:36 / km) +40m 5:26 / km
shoes: Slipstream

and then again a couple hours later with Hayden. Not quite so brisk speedwise, though the temps were getting brisk in the shadows...

Note

god, this week sucks... figure I'd put a useless note in here rather than having an entirely blank week. But I'm nearing the end of a 12 day stretch of working double (my job plus the essentials of one of my primary employees who is in Japan for a couple of weeks vacation.) That plus all the kids after school activities just leaving me totally wiped and then its dark and all motivation for anything but sleep just leaves me. The coming weekend looks good but unfortunately too many family events going on to get away for some O, but at least I should be able to pry a short run or bike ride in there somewhere if I'm lucky...

Thursday Oct 2, 2008 #

Run - Trail 5:56 [2] 0.85 km (6:59 / km)
(sick) shoes: Puma Sierra Trail Racers

jogging around the house again with Hayden. Started to rain, so called it a short day at a half mile..

Wednesday Oct 1, 2008 #

Run - Trail 8:30 [2] 1.6 km (5:19 / km)

Quick mile run with Hayden (16 laps around the house woohoo!!). Hey, its something and at least I broke a sweat.
