Run - Trail (98 Troll Cup Br2 Post Run) 7:47 [3] 1.62 km (4:48 / km)

Trail run back to car after running Troll Cup Br 2 at Gay City. No stop between Brown course and Post course trail run.

Orienteering (98 Troll Cup Brown 2) 39:35 [4] 4.2 km (9:25 / km) +125m 8:12 / km

Ran Troll Cup Brown Course Day 2 between 2 short, fast trail runs to get about an hours workout. Pre run was hard and fast so I began the O course already breathing hard. Course was clean except run below # 3 winding up on spur beyond (~1min error) and stayed too high going to 6 and had to come down through cliffs (~30sec). Otherwise felt really good...

Run - Trail (98 Troll Cup Br2 Pre-run) 9:55 [3] 2.2 km (4:30 / km)

Park charging $7 for parking, so opted to park on a back road and run trails into the park, then run the Brown course, then trail run back to car. Linked all three together with no breaks for about an hours workout. Pre-run was fairly brisk so the O-run was begun already heavily exerting...

Hiking (Nathan Hale SF)1.0 mi ( / mi)

Letterbox hike w/ the family. Its exercise with a navigation component, so I'll log it here although I won't count the time.... Enjoyable day in the woods, probably do one or two tomorrow afternoon as well

Run - Trail (Crandals (CW)) 22:46 [4] 4.75 mi (4:48 / mi)

Quick run around the outer loop at Crandals before jumping in the pond to swim with the kids. Did the loop CW this time with a longer, more gradual climb to the top of the hill, then a fast, twisty, rocky descent down the new red trail.

Temp ~90F, humid. the run felt good though..

Orienteering (TGOIF) 1:26:53 [4] 7.23 km (12:01 / km)
18c

warm, not as humid - woods drier and I could see where I was going. No major errors, about 7-8 minutes worth of hesitations and minors - finished about 12 min back of Peter G. but a couple minutes ahead of Michael Hughes and Doug Gosling for my first ever 1st place in my age class...

Run - Trail (Dusk Run) 11:42 [3] 2.0 km (5:51 / km)

Went for an early evening letterbox hike with the family. Finally got there as darkness was falling along with some rain. Walked out to a road w/ the family, then ran trail back in fading light to retrieve the car and go pick them up. Distance estimated but feels right as it was a pretty brisk run on an old rail bed with only a few muddy/slippery spots.

Run - Trail (Crandalls) 27:48 [3] 4.75 km (5:51 / km)

Ran the outer loop trail through the new section at Crandalls - very nice open terrain (in August) - lots of subtle reentrants and knolls on a long gradual hillside. Not large enough for A-meet - but would make a good intermediate event map or sprint courses. I think the entire area is just under 3km.

Run - Trail (figure-8 modified) 1:25:43 [3] 14.6 km (5:52 / km)

Ran modified figure 8 course w/ Bruce, Bob & Kevin. Sampler->Moonlight->4 corners->Hemlocks->Soapstone

Raining, wet - legs felt good but hard to breath w/ humidity. Quite muddy and fogged glasses. Good effort.

Orienteering (Gay City GY1 1998) 46:14 [4] 5.98 km (7:44 / km) +130m 6:58 / km
spiked:8/10c

Ran 1998 Troll Cup GY1. Just rained, wet, green woods. Many areas with dense ferns covering ground. Worked on choosing fast running routes and looking ahead to avoid obstacles and rocky/ferny ground. Two non-spike controls were somewhat vague features that took a bit of hunting in the green to locate - would have found them immediately if a bag were there, but worn rootstock and rock pile were hard to discern in the green woods. Good run
