Orienteering (Diamond Hill Red) 1:35:44 [5] 6.0 km (15:57 / km)

11:00 am - nice weather. Ran well but had trouble with map (older hand-drawn map). First leg had new roads/clearings not on map or corrections. 2nd leg found both vetting streamers but no bag. 6th control was on 2nd of 2 spurs mapped, but many more small spurs in the area and very green (lots of green, none mapped). etc, etc, etc. 2nd half of run better as I ran solely on contours since I was finding rock, wall and trail features not on map. Discouraging, but a good workout.

Run - Trail (Sampler) 34:19 [3] 6.5 km (5:17 / km)

8:00am - ran with Ken Clark - sampler with double woodchuck. Nice morning for a run, cool & crisp. First run of season to require gloves.

Orienteering (Hurd - Green) 53:24 [5] 5.3 km (10:05 / km)

10:40am - raining.... Ran Green course while Thomas Skrocki shadowed to learn O. Glasses into back pocket after 3 controls - useless in rain. Ran fairly blind for most of it. Lost maybe 5 minutes to errors, about 2 to fiddling with punch card in map bag, another 4-5 running slow due to bad vision. {Jukola Spiders]

Run - Trail (Sampler & Moonlight) 59:58 [3] 11.0 km (5:27 / km)

8:00 am - sunny, pleasant. Ran w/ Ken, Tom & Kevin. Fast paced at times, then backtracked at junctions to allow catchup. [Brahmas]

Other (Mapping - Wolf Den) 3:15:00 [1]

10:15 - sunny, turning cloudy. More field work today, mostly wading through laurel 'fight' - hence not a lot of progress... Also worked on a couple of portions of boundary. Ended up near Table Rock. [Brahmas]

Run - Trail (Wolf Den) 36:57 [4] 6.74 km (5:29 / km)

3:00pm - went for run after mapping. Wolf Den parking, wRed north to yellow down to group site, eRed north to Blue to HQ (13:25 / 3km split), Blue south to eRed north to Wolf Den Road to wRed south back to Wolf Den lot. Felt good and fast to 3km split, a little slower in the southeast. [Estes]

Other (Mapping @ Wolf Den) 4:53:08 [1]

10:00 AM - sunny 50's - mapping near the Wolf Den and along Blue trail in southern section. Park boundary very vague - corners ok, not much to determine exact line of boundary.

Monday Sep 18, 2000 #

Other (Yoga) 1:10:00 [3]

6:00pm - started a Hatha Yoga class w/ Ellen. Should be good for flexibility and overall toning.

Sunday Sep 17, 2000 #

Other (Mapping @ Wolf Den) 6:14:00 [1]

9:30am - sunny, pleasant - field checking in the north central section of map.

Saturday Sep 16, 2000 #

Other (Mapping @ Wolf Den) 5:16:00 [1]

10:30am - field checking remainder of Saptree Run section, then over to Mashamoquet Brook camping area.

Orienteering (Pawtuckaway Blue Day 2) 2:26:00 [5] 9.5 km (15:22 / km)

9:20am - sunny, pleasant - ran very well, plenty of navigation errors, but physically ran strong with power to spare in the end. J-J caught up with me about half-way through. We managed to see-saw our way together for the rest of the course although on a few legs we took radically different routes. Having strength to spare and due to J-J's less than ideal route execution, I actually managed to put 2 minutes on him from the penultimate control which was only 360m. Too bad I made my errors early and allowed him to catch me. [Jukola Spiders]

Orienteering (Pawtuckaway Blue Day 1) 2:17:00 [5] 9.7 km (14:07 / km)

10:15am - sunny, pleasant - felt physically strong for the whole course, not spent 3/4 of the way through like I used to be. I attribute it to the angioplasty in April and better heart function. Made numerous small errors such as drifting on bearings, hunting in the circle etc. 22 minutes behind the Austrian and about 8 minutes behind Peter. [Jukola Spiders]

Run - Trail (Crandalls) 16:06 [4] 3.68 km (4:22 / km)

8:00am - sunny, cool - first real run since Rogaine, headed to Pawtuckaway later this afternoon. Had asthma & tight chest for most of run, felt sluggish, but time was pretty good. [Jukola Spiders]

Saturday Sep 2, 2000 #

Run - Road (Whistling Bear) 30:30 [3] 6.0 km (5:05 / km)

6:30am - cloudy, warm - ran a random road loop by cabin in New Hampshire - no muscle soreness, but legs lack 'zip' - hopefully I will get back to running before Pawtuckaway but the schedule does not look good. [Brahmas]
