Was really hoping to tide DeTour today, but just can't break away for a full day. But will ride over to Manchester this AM and ride the first leg to Willimantic at least. 27F & clear here at the house at present...

Going to try the live logging feature of Ridewithgps on this ride. Not really sure how well it works, but if anyone stumbles through here this AM the log should be here: http://ridewithgps.com/users/1819. Feel free to comment if it works, doesn't work or is just plain stupid...

Figured I'd join the DeTour ride as far as Willimantic and then retrace my steps back home. 7 others showed for the ride and quite enjoyable moving right along the Hop River Trail. Got down to Willi in good time so I elected to split from the group and head west on the Airline West. Had 2 bottles lemonade, 2 ensure and 2 v8 with me. Nice day to just be cruising along in the woods - solo now. Got to East Hampton where I planned to refuel but the convenience store was closed. Dang.. and just about out of calories.

Nothing to do but press on, into Meshomasic State Forest on some really fine dirt roads. Well, fine if I hadn't been out of gas. Uphill a real slog, and couldn't really enjoy the downhills as loose gravel made them a bit dicey. Filled bottles from a roadside stream and pressed on. Some cramping in groin muscles as I rolled into South Glastonbury. Took a short break and decided to take busier roads back through Manchester rather than my original plan of quieter roads up past Gay City over Birch Mtn since the climbing wasn't happening.. Stopped at a Flatdog cart on Main St to refuel, then over to Colonial to pick the rail trail up for the jaunt home.

Out a lot longer than I had planned, but no serious damage done and doubled my previous long ride mileage.
