Note
(rest day)

Feeling pretty good today - general tiredness, but no aches or soreness whatsoever....

Did some research on my weird shin ailment - I'm leaning toward compartment syndrome - whereas the shin muscle gets swollen up within a compartment of fascia that doesn't give and ends up pinching blood vessels and more importantly, nerves. I'm thinking that perhaps my feet swelled up and with shoes too tight the blood flow was restricted through the legs causing the swelling in the shins. slowing down for a long walk perhaps allowed the swelling the subside and pain to magically disappear.

The swollen foot theory also concurs with some minor foot tingling I noted at the very end of my 27.5 mile run a few weeks ago - which subsided quickly once I switched to looser shoes.

So I guess the next step is to try some looser fitting shoes for long runs - but how does one go about 'fitting' shoes for swollen feet? Go run for 4 hours then go shoe shopping? Or just find a model I like and get a pair a full size larger than what's comfortable in the store?

And do I start the run in regular shoes, then switch to oversize after a few hours? I wouldn't want to start a run in loose shoes only to have blisters and other ailments from sliding around too much.
