Orienteering race 55:32 [4] 6.1 km (9:06 / km)
shoes: Inov8 - MudrockII

A runner's course nicely set by Steve Vaughan at ARMCO park. This is really a sprint venue, and because of its size, it's really not possible to get super challenging control sites. So the best you can do as a designer is put out some interesting or difficult route choices. I thought that Steve did this quite well. Looking at the map in retrospect, I'm sure that I made a couple bad route decisions. I made a bad mistake at #20, and a worse mistake by not bringing a change of shoes. But a really fun day, and a great workout. Thanks Steve!

Control. pickup 20:00 [1] 1.2 mi (16:40 / mi)
shoes: Inov8 - MudrockII

Very slow control pickup, combination of walking and jogging. No compass, and one look a the map per control.

Note

Hmm. . .another first place finish that results in lowering my AP strength rating. Perhaps we could pay an elite East Coast orienteer to come out to a local meet and perform badly. Or better yet, perhaps just competing with them head to head could boost our ratings?

Field checking 6:00:00 [1] 7.5 mi (48:00 / mi)
shoes: MudRock IV

Completely re-worked my advanced courses at Mounds to avoid a wet foot crossing, and scouted-out a couple dozen control locations. The map is in pretty decent shape, and I'm more-or-less happy with how things are panning out. Brown, Green, and Red may have a leg or two that's a loser, but they should have a few decent legs, too.
