Running 1:14:30 [3] 10.6 km (7:02 / km) +400m 5:55 / km
Warm early summer/late spring evening at sunset. Up to Beacon reservoir. Take north side trail to Casino. The trail is overgrown now, with leaves and branches hanging in, much different compared to the winter. It gets dark on the downhill trail, the washed out rocky trail is hard to navigate. The leavy trees cut out a lot of the remaining light. Great moon over the river. Fun running for nothing else than just running up the hill and down. The good purpose of no purpose, lots of time to think and ruminate current events.
The trail on the steep mountain side: the overgrown mossy rocks, fallen trees, boulder silencing, trees quieting, sky laughing. A look, a beauty, a poem of things leaning into themselves. Internalize, validate, admire. Words swirl in my mind, I carry them along and somewhere they drop and hide in the cracks in the crags.
On the way up I move a dead snake onto the side of the trail in a bed of leaves. I can't see animals flattened to mush, so I rescue them. A slender elegant black snake, such a smooth flow in the body even when it is dead.
Relax warm up/down 10:00 [1]
The underside of one foot hurts. Rub and massage both feet until they glow warmly. Do some of the stretching outside, it is such great weather now.
