Orienteer race (Lake Elmo red) 2:30:00 [3]

the running felt pretty good (which it hasn't in a long time) and the orienteering wasn't all that bad, and I had fun (checked myself a few times) but made a few bonehead mistakes.
One was to six, where I looked at map and saw it was a very long (straight, no intersections) trail run to a control, then a very long trail run back.... and in my head there was only one control down at the end but in fact there were two.
I stuck to my original "there's only one" despite evidence on the map. But I discovered it (much to late) and decided to go back. My mind had similar lapses a couple of other times. It's hard (for me) to switch between run, run, run, run, run and then get my mind back in the game. I'm sure that the fact that I've done virtually no orienteering hasn't helped!
It didn't ruin my day and in fact loved it and can't wait for Nerstrand and the rogaine.
I wasn't a fan of controls placed in dark green. They weren't hard to find but I got very tangled up in brush and fallen trees. Lake Elmo is a bit tricky for control setting though with all the paths, easy places, so maybe that's why.
