Huntington SP, Brown, 4.0 km. Went out with what is now the usual mantra -- no falls and find all the controls. Success on only one of them, and there is no denying the failure as there was a witness. Who perhaps was also the instigator?

See, I was jogging along gently on the way to #5, watching my footing very carefully, when I saw someone ahead of me coming towards me. And as we got closer she calls out something like "you're looking really good" and after a pause once again "you're looking really good" (or some slightly different version, but essentially the same).

Well, that was a pleasant surprise that I clearly was not expecting. And any concentration I might have had just got up and left. And I did, I guess, all I was capable of. And crashed. Right in front of her. And all I could do at that point was to say, "And this is the reality." And laugh.

The only damage that seemed to have been done was to my ego and my self-esteem. But everything else was fine. And I was laughing pretty hard.

So yes a fall, even a memorable fall, but certainly a fall I can live with. I mean, it wasn't even my fault.

As to the rest of the outing, 2 botched controls, the rest pretty much OK, and I did find them all. And the 2 botched ones are OK really, because you always want to leave room for improvement.

When I got to the finish, everyone already had heard about my crash. Just had to laugh some more.

Delightful trip down and back with Charlie. Lots of the WCOC folks around, excellent vibes. And word from Niels L-O that there will be another version of the WCOC/HVO winter series come the cold season. Yippee!

I had decided it was time to see if I still had any willpower. I picked a loop at Earl's Trails that I knew well, little ups and downs, nothing long or steep, about 2 miles, and clockwise as that seemed like it would be easier. I suppose the intention was to run the whole thing, though that really didn't seem possible, given as how the farthest I've run in the last 15 months has been half a mile of flat pavement.

Headed off, each little up seemed about twice what I remembered, but I did the first, and then the second, and then, well, figured if I could get a mile that would be great. Did that, kept going a little more, 15 minutes, and then there was a little up and my willpower just vanished, and I ran/walked the rest of the way. But still, progress.

Though I was tired enough afterwards to beg off a bike ride with Gail....

My Garmin said 2.06 miles for the loop. I remembered it being right on 2 miles, but that was with the previous Garmin. So it seems that I must have the version of the 245 that I always thought Garmin should make, namely one for runners of advancing age and retreating ability, so the GPS just adds a certain percentage to what it measures. My experience hiking with Gail is similar, my Garmin always shows a longer distance.

I am certainly not complaining. Nor am I adjusting the distance on my log. That would be really foolish.

Leverett loop, extended a bit to the south. By myself, so no need to extend it a little more to get to 20 miles. -:)

A little sluggish starting out, but legs felt better as the ride went on. And a perfect day, sunny, low humidity, breeze from the NW.

North Mountain up to Gunn and back. A minute running, minute walking on the way up, seemed that almost all the runs were on the ups and the walks on the flats. But managed it, and it was certainly easier mentally just having a plan. 2/1 on the way back.

Better than expected -- legs had felt tired this morning after yesterday's ride. But reflecting on Saturday's orienteering, which was almost all walking and the bit of running very feeble, seemed like I needed to step it up a little.
