orienteering 1:04:45 [3] 3.53 mi (18:21 / mi) +615ft 15:45 / mi
weight:139lbs

Winter Series #6 at Ansonia. Green course, 4.8 km, 195m.

A little disappointing. Physically because I had to walk so much and didn't seem to be able to do it with any sense of urgency. Navigationally because I blew the last control, just a lack of discipline, not stopping when alarm bells were going off. Yup, a little disappointing.

But a fine outing, company with Phil down and back, which is a joy. Saw Clint there before we started, a nice chat with him, both about his orienteering and a bit of advice I'd given him that maybe was helping, also about his new position as head of OUSA communications, which I think he'll be great at.

He'd already finished, 59:40 for the Green, so the goal I had of an hour seemed like it might require more of me than there was to give. And so it did, though until the last control I thought 61 was where I'd end up.

Clint had come with JJ, but JJ, young stud that he is, he's been running M35 for at least a couple of decades, was out on the Red course and not yet back.

But Charlie was there, a short chat with him, but more catching up when Phil and he and I went off for a bite to eat after we were done with the orienteering. Three old guys, prime demographic for catching the coronavirus it seems, though not yet. But then how would we know for sure?

And then back home via 84 and 91, seemed like less traffic than usual for a Sunday afternoon. Are lots of people self-quarantining out of fear?

run/hike 42:51 [3] 3.32 mi (12:54 / mi) +259ft 12:01 / mi

Same route as Sunday with Phil. Ran a little smarter. Took it a little gentler on the downs so overall wasn't as tired. Need to remember that.

Kept rough track of how much I walked. Turned out to be right about 10 minutes, never more than a minute at a time (though that's only because the ups were short). So walked about .5 niles, ran 2.8. Over my limit.

Mt. Toby, jeep road until too much ice. Rougher trails the last mile or so. Sunny, out of the wind (from the NW).

road running 21:19 [3] 2.16 mi (9:52 / mi) +170ft 9:11 / mi
weight:140lbs

The plan was to run the whole loop, but couldn't manage the hill at the end. Uphills are just really hard. That may just be the way it's going to be. At the best.

5 PM

spinning 45:00 [2]

Very modest effort. Went mainly for social reasons.

Note

Broke another tooth today (I have really bad teeth). Did it a little after 4 pm. I've broken bits of tooth off before, only one time so bad that it couldn't be repaired and had to be pulled. This felt more like that, felt like a piece was stabbing me if I brought my teeth together. Immediate questions, like how am I going to eat.

In about a minute I was out the door and headed for the dentist, figured better to just show up rather than call up. Only been a patient there for about 6 months, but they are wonderful, do the whole crown process in 3 hours, making the crown right there, all hi-tech.

So I showed up, my dentist had just started with a patient. Within 5 minutes I was settled into the extra dental chair they have for emergencies. Within another 5 minutes she had pulled out the piece of tooth which was impaled in my gum and stuffed in some cotton to stop the bleeding. Then back to her scheduled patient for about 15-20 minutes. Then back to me for 10 minutes, put in a temporary patch.

And a little after 5 I was walking out, feeling way better. And maybe the tooth won't have to be pulled, will have to see. She is a multitasker extraordinaire, a little bit OCD, with what seems to be excellent skills. Just wonderful.
