biking - dark blue bike 55:43 [2] 13.94 mi (4:00 / mi) +318ft 3:55 / mi

Ride with Kissy on a beautiful afternoon. Thought I would be able to have a relaxed ride, but nope, a good effort and she was hardly working up a sweat. Lots of furniture on the bike path, but we managed to keep from hitting anything/anyone, or being hit, or even coming close.

Only hassle was taking my bike out of the car and discovering that the front tire was flat. Totally flat. Pumped a little air in, the air seemed to be coming out just as fast.

Took the tire off, seemed like the tube was no longer there, totally weird. In fact it was as if glued to the tire, zero air in it. Best guess is the car got too hot in the couple of days since I'd ridden and tube had popped, or did whatever tubes do when they get too hot.

Took me a while, and a bit of strength, to separate flat tube from tire, but then the rest of the change went pretty quickly. Now just have to remember to get a new tube.

After that it was nice just to be able to ride, and especially nice company.

hike with Gail 1:13:11 [1] 4.06 mi (18:02 / mi) +245ft 17:03 / mi

And then a hike with Gail. Finished just about sunset.

run/hike 22:32 [3] 2.25 mi (10:01 / mi) +2ft 10:00 / mi

In Wilmington, NC. 5 on, 1 off. Nice morning, upper 60s, a little breezy, a little sun.

So does AP have some sort of AI operation going on, perhaps an AI that doesn't bode criticism? Today all it gives me is 2' of climb on a very gently rolling route that had someplace between 50 and 100, I'd guess.

I'm just curious how it can be so wacko. Is Kenny no longer in control? :-)

hike with Gail 1:19:54 [1] 4.13 mi (19:21 / mi) +234ft 18:22 / mi

Abandoned roads, pretty scruffy in places. But had the place to ourselves.

8 PM

Note

So what's going on with the AttackPoint method of calculating how much climb you do? On today's hike, it says we climbed 234 feet.

Here's the contour map of where we were --

Not a contour line to be seen. It certainly seemed dead flat to us, maybe 10' above sea level. And yet the graph of our speed and elevations has the elevation over 50' in lots of places.

Something is wacko.

Thursday Jan 9, 2020 #

Note

More critters, and finally some good-looking ones, including this fine Black Vulture --

And a large and presumably ancient alligator napping on a warm afternoon --

Though, as the next photo reveals, perhaps not napping at all, just waiting for us to get closer. We kept our distance.

3 PM

run/hike 23:10 [3] 2.31 mi (10:02 / mi) +30ft 9:54 / mi

10 on, 3 off, 10:10 on.

Wednesday Jan 8, 2020 #

Note

Not a lot of hills in this part of South Carolina.

11 AM

hike with Gail 1:16:49 [1] 4.0 mi (19:12 / mi) +10ft 19:10 / mi

Nice loop, though part of the third mile was really rooty. AP wanted to give us 308' of climb. I'd say 10' was more accurate. :-)

2 PM

biking - dark blue bike 1:05:13 [2] 15.09 mi (4:19 / mi) +50ft 4:18 / mi

Ride around Seabrook Island. Stopped at one point to try to get a selfie with 5 storks, but my technique needs improvement.

Tuesday Jan 7, 2020 #

treadmill 20:58 [3] 2.0 mi (10:29 / mi)

4 on, 1 off. Miles in 10:42, 10:16.

Note

A fine little drama in the world of predator and prey. An osprey arrived over a little pond --

and started to hover while it checked out the scene below --

Even though it was after fish, the Coots and the Ring-necks panicked and circled the wagons in the separate groups --

The osprey was clearly on the verge of action --

and then it dove...

But it came up empty-handed. Circled around to have another try, but then seemed to lose interest and wandered off. So nothing to show for it, but it put on a good show.

11 AM

hike with Gail 1:26:15 [1] 4.43 mi (19:28 / mi) +515ft 17:32 / mi

Also with Mike and Vivian. In Hitchcock Woods, trails were mostly hard-packed sand, somewhat chopped up by lots of horse traffic, in which case we'd walk along the edges. More effort than on pavement for sure.

5 PM

run/hike 32:06 [3] 2.96 mi (10:51 / mi) +168ft 10:17 / mi

Using the last bit of daylight, rather dark when I finished. A tour of the front nine, mostly on the cart path, a little on the grass. 4 on, 1 off.
